Israel to deport Scot who tried to stop soldiers demolishing house
http://www.theherald.co.uk/news/archive/18-8-19103-0-37-56.html

A SCOTS peace activist is to be deported from Israel after trying to stop soldiers blowing up and bulldozing the house of a Palestinian family at a refugee camp near Nablus.

Andrew Muncie, 29, of Spean Bridge, Inverness-shire, who is with the International Solidarity Movement, chained himself to a pole in the house.

He was arrested in the early hours yesterday by the Israeli defence force (IDF) who "blindfolded, handcuffed, and took him to the police station in Ariel", according to the solidarity group. It said he was due home today or tomorrow.

A spokesman said: "The house was blown up and bulldozed, an action in contravention of the Geneva Convention which proscribes collective punishment. At a court hearing in Tel Aviv yesterday, he was found guilty of obstructing the Israeli authorities and ordered to be deported."

If you openly defied police in ANY nation, wouldn't you get in trouble?

5. Arrest
I asked a question about the arrest. I didn't realize that Scotland was being cleansed of something or another.

9. Or put another way
They arrested a foreign national who interfered with the military. That will get you locked up in any nation in the world.

10. Of course, according to you,
it doesn't matter that the said military is engaged in terrorism and ethnic cleansing against a native civilian population. Keep the excuses coming, muddle

12. Uh huh
Murdering innocent civilians and razing Palestinian land to make room for a racist Apartheid Wall, dropping bombs on civilian targets and gunning down little kids isn't terrorism and ethnic cleansing.

Whatever.

13. that is absolutely not "terrorism"
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 02:11 PM by Aidoneus
You can easily tell what is or isn't "terrorism" by looking at the flags:--if somebody has the wrong flag, then they're dirty scum terrorist and their death is satisfying and always in "defense". :eyes:

22. Good point, Aidoneous...
Like in Iraq: When the US kills civilians in the bombing raids, it is "collateral damage." When the suicide bomber drove the truck into the UN headquarters in Baghdad, it's terrorism.

28. My view of things
I believe that we are guilty in some of our actions, like the way we handle major terrorists (launch a missile to their cars, blowing them, their families, and everybody else around them.

Though, we are not terrorists.
We merely try to defend ourselves against the terrorist attacks, without them we'd never bother conquering Palestinian territory we don't need it.
Even the Jordan king let them go and never wanted them back after the war because he knew that they were trouble-makers and that he'd be better-off without them, problem is that we had to take their territories because of their attacks (Even before Israel was founded), and as such we are the defensive side.

Because of their aggression we had to take military actions, in which we'll may be wrong (As I said in the beginning), but we certainly are not terrorists.

30. Not really...
Of course there's a low-level ethnic cleansing going on, and it has been for a long time now. Most people seem to think that for something to be ethnic cleansing it's got to be a sudden, massive transfer of people from the land they live on, and it has to involve massive violence. Ethnic cleansing can go on over a long period of time, and with the destruction of Palestinian homes, the Palestinian economy, and the indiscriminate killing of Palestian civilians, it's not bullshit at all to point out that there's an element of ethnic-cleansing going on...

And ethnic cleansing is not self-defense.
In fact it seems to work crappy for that.

15. Nor is bulldozing a families home "self-defense"
Seems like the media always takes the Israeli side. Palestinians are called terrorists and occupying Israeli forces are called soldiers or even citizens. The word "terrorists" seems to follow the word Palestinian while the word "settlers" seems to follow the word Israeli.

17. Nothing like seeing an extremist pov on a progressive forum...
That warped belief that the Occupied Territories as well as whatever parts of other nations are part of Israel is what those extremist settlers are into. The fact is that the Occupied Territories aren't part of Israel and no Israeli government has annexed the West Bank or Gaza Strip which a state that believed territory that doesn't belong to it is part of it would do...

Palestinians are Arab immigrants?? Do you understand what an immigrant is? Trying to term people who have been born somewhere and whos families have been on that land for countless generations is just plain silly. I've seen racists elsewhere trot out the claim that the Aborigines here are immigrants because aoens ago another group of people were here before them. And Palestinians don't just call themselves Palestinians - they are Palestinians...

Possesses that land, so they are in Israeli territory until such time as a peace settlement makes it someone else's territory.

31. Bogus, dude!!
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 05:13 AM by Violet_Crumble
I just thought I'd jump in with the predictable reply from Muddle that international law is bogus and the UN is bogus. It's not a particularly convincing argument, especially when used to argue that it's just fine for a state to take control of land that doesn't belong to it by force. As if calling everything someone doesn't like bogus is going to convince me we should all don our army fatigues and revert back to the dark days of late 19th century conquest that caused so much trouble in Europe and is still causing shitloads of trouble in Africa...
