It's dumb, but then military people are not usually academic grade minds anyway. They seem to be gibbering a bit and thrashing around because of the intractability of the problems they face. Reminds of what I see in US defense circles, although the issues are a bit different there. I'm glad they are not "protecting" me. It's bad enough with the Pentagon bureaucrats.
The problem is with their premises, the "zero sum" stuff (a solecism that, BTW), if you start with the idea that there is no way out, then heck, you're not going to come up with a nice peaceful resolution. You only get out of logic in conclusions what is consistent with the premise you feed in at the beginning.
They need to think outside their little box now and then. Otherwise they are just bouncing off the walls and waiting for Shrub's Armageddon.
