Israel fails to deliver on commitments to US

List of illegal outposts slated for evacuation is more than a month overdue; Americans indifferent.

"The Israeli government has failed to deliver on commitments made to the US, but it appears that the American Administration is not particularly interested. Notably, Israel has still not handed over to the US the list of illegal outposts slated for removal, which it was supposed to provide over a month ago, but the failure to deliver has apparently not been met with a harsh American reaction .

During PM Sharon's visit to the US in mid-April, his Bureau Chief Dov Weisglass met with US National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice. In the meeting, Weisglass delivered a letter committing Israel to remove all illegal outposts. The letter also noted that the list of outposts slated for evacuation will be drafted within a month, in cooperation with US Ambassador to Israel, Dan Kurtzer. However, the list has not been completed as of yet.

In an interview with Army Radio this morning Kurtzer said, “Washington is still waiting for Sharon to follow through on his commitments on the evacuation of illegal outposts and the freezing of all building projects in the territories”. According to the ambassador, “The US is engaged in quiet contacts with Israel on this issue and it does not intend to exert pressure on Jerusalem."

1. And this is surprising how?
Israel has a long string of broken promises and routinely ignores UN resolutions.

2. I agree
They had no intention of ever following through and why should they? No political party in the US would ever, EVER, hold Israel accountable for anything it does. When you don't hold people accountable they do whatever they want with no concern for consequences. Quite frankly I doubt we'd say anything if Israel just started systematically killing off the Palestinians, and I expect that to be proven fairly soon. Although they will probably go for the only slightly more humane approach of mass deportations. It's such a shame that the combination of Christian prophecy and Liberal guilt for the Holocaust has combined into a total indifference to the suffering of those hurt by Israel.
