Israel may "assassinate" peace bid
The Palestinian Authority has accused Israel of trying to "assassinate" a U.S.-backed peace plan by killing Islamic militants in helicopter attacks that have drawn vows of revenge.

In the latest such strike, Israel killed a commander and three other members of Hamas's armed wing in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, accusing the Palestinian Authority of failing to crack down on militants as mandated by the "road map" peace plan.

"I think that (Prime Minister Ariel) Sharon's government plans to assassinate the road map...(and) that some extremists in the U.S. administration are facilitating this mission for Israel," said Palestinian cabinet minister Yasser Abed Rabbo.

U.S. President George W. Bush has responded to a surge in tit-for-tat violence and the collapse of a seven-week-old truce by stepping up calls for Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas to dismantle militant groups.

1. No one will ever convince me....
that Sharon's Likud, and their right-wing allies, really want peace, at least as defined in the road map. Of course, the same could be said of Hamas as well. Sharon's efforts toward embracing the accord, are simply to provide cover for Bush and his neocons. There will be NO PEACE, as long as radicals, on both sides, control the situation.

2. no one elected Hamas
... and after Israel's decade-long campaign of trying to weaken the Palestinian Authority, it's no wonder the latter can't control Hamas either.

3. I have no idea what's going on over there! But I think Americans
wouldn't like Israel occupying the land around Washington D.C. for 20 years and building apartments and shopping centers. How goofy could one be to think the Arab people don't notice this?

As far as I'm concerned, without knowing what's really going on out there, Israel wants the land to make a bigger country. Just like the US pushed the American Indians off the land.

If I were in charge of Israel I'd give back all the land which we occupied and move back to the land which is 'accepted' to ours and go from there.

4. Do you
have any specific states you care to return to the Indians, or perhaps to Mexico, how about the La purchase?

I'm sure it would be an improvement on the present government.

12. Perhaps Israel could literaly enslave the Arabs
I mean it's not like the US didn't do that a century and a half ago or so.

6. Well....
I AM sure Americans wouldn't like palestinian terrorists around Washington D.C. for 20 years committing relentless atrocities
by inhumanly murdering innocent people.

8. But they'd like Israel occupying them????
Get real! Don't forget that the IDF commits relentless atrocities and inhumanely murders innocent people. Unlike you, I'm not prepared to overlook atrocities and murder on one side and then use the deaths of civilians on the other side as some sort of cynical weapon for an attempted argument...

Violet...

10. That's were America gets in trouble. The reporters are advancing their or
their CEO's objective instead of being objective and telling the truth. How can one ignore the the difference of modernized weapons/communication equipment between the 2.

I think you'd find any race and country reacting the same way as the Palestinians are reacting (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Philippino, American, British...)

When I hear as the last resort from Israeli media guests that they 'want to kill all of us' . Well how do any objective person repsond to that? It like saying your not American because you don't support the troops.

No, there's something much bigger here going on and I wish I could find an honest journalist to report the truth. It's seem like everything has been tried except Israel get off the occupied lands.

And I totally reject Israels stance that 'all the bombing must stop before we proceed'. I can't believe this is accepted in the media. It's like your city police chief saying we're not going into your neighborhood until all the robberies and shootings stop. What can innocent people do against the criminals?

11. all good analogies...
have, at least, a tenunous connective thread to reality. Unfortunately, this is a poor analogy with no connection to the real world.

Why would Palestinian self-exploders take to the streets of Washington DC?
