2. The weirdest one and this was a couple years back

was one from a newspaper in the UAE. The Israelis were using females soldiers to distract Palestinian men and boys. The story went as such, the Israeli troops would move into an area to engage rioters or protesters. Then out of a vehicle they had with them would pop out a female soldier who would proceed to strip. While the Palestinians were entranced by her siren dance the Israeli troops would then gun them down.

you guys can do better than that....and for those who talk about "smearing a whole group" this stuff is printed in the various arab newspapers, the MAIN papers, not some tabloid rag, so i would say it is "they" that are doing the smearing.

a year ago, headlines for the palestenian press, after some palesteninas were killed in gun battle in gaza, explained that an female israeli soldier stipped while on top of a tank, and when the "disgusted" palestenians got closer to stone her, she wipped out a pistol and shot them.

you should be by posting such tripe. You don't see people pointing to some nutcases in Israel that blame Islam and Muslims for everything bad that happens around them and in general.

Haaretz wouldn't be focusing on such BS as they would on things that actually matter and could make a change. That's just one of the differences betweem them and the above source, and that's why I take them seriously (and with respect) as opposed to the likes of JPost, JWR and other neoconservative, RW media sources. I have often seen Israelis smeared by the utterences of uor most demented spokesmen. However, there's another point you're missing. A lot of these were published in Arab countries (plus Iran). These countries don't have a free press (with the limited exception of Al-Jazeera and it's like, and Al-Manar, which is probably beyond government control due to Hizbulllah's power), so anything appearing in their press is at least tacitly approved by that country's government (not to mention the fact that some of these appeared in the governments' official newspapers - e.g. Egypt's official paper ran an article describing how Isral was sending HIV positive prostitutes to Egypt to spread the disease).

Sharon's goverment and it's radical parts are also very much OFFICIAL. As are the open tendencies to wipe out Palestinians completely into Jordan and other countries, expressed by various members of the Sharon government. If you're looking for extreme positions, you'll likely find plenty in Israel as well.

when the govt sponsored newspaper (when the editorials must toe the govt line) or when govt TV stations create TV shows that show a distint ethnic/cultural group steal organs from a different ethnic group

or that one ethnic group drinks blood from children from a different ethnic group.....those are done intentionally with a distinct political goal.

when an individual minister(s) says something stuiped, or ignorent be it an israeli, palestenian, Norwegian, american, it can be kept within the context of an idiote talking...but when there is a TV show, a movie (elders of zion-Egypt 2004), etc

then something is wrong with that society for producing such filth....and it should be condemmed for what it is.

All types of Palesteians are interviewed constanly on israeli TV/radio (and they are always very polite and patient-unlike their israeli counterparts)
cant recall anything similar happening on the palestenian side/egyptian media etc.

Israeli films show the palestenains/druz/israeli/christians caught up in various cultural conflicts (jews living as palestenian workers, homosexuals in the idf, druz in cross cultural weddings, PLO with israelis in lebanon etc)

how are the jews portrayed in the arab/palestenian media?-pretty simplistic with the usual simplistic evil characters.

If you search israeli culture you will find, as you can in all cultures various hate groups, be it neo nazi, kkk, kach etc. But I am talking about the main cultural stream. The main organs of the media: widly read newspapers, TV series, movies, seminars, talk shows!

If you cant see the difference you have to be turning a blind eye to the arab/islamic culture (and yes that includes parts of the palestenian culture) or have some strange excuse for it. (Egypt has shown some interesting signs of change recently)

and sharon? for those who understand israeli politics, he was elected for one reason only, to stop our busses from blowing up. He wasnt elected out of hate.

I'm liberal and humanist, that's all. And I treat Palestinians as I do Israelis (they're all people to me) I don't see them as hateful beings that want to kill all those of the "opposite" side. And I certainly don't judge them by some "mainstream" press. Mainstream press in most countries is bound to populism, sensationalism, nationalism and goes hand in hand with the government policies, even in supposed democracies.

Real life and people I know, meet give me a much better picture then media coverage about someone.

Its not a matter of seeing the palestenians or israelis or iraqis etc as people, its a matter of what the society teachs them. Your "nice attitude" is nice but it skips over societies. That mainstream press affects people, their attitudes and what they subsequently do....so it is important.

I would then ask you...where does all that hateful stuff come from? (see my above posts)...why does it exist? and how am I,....the target of such hate suppose to react to it?

I can hardly "ignore" that fact that 20 zillion saudis are reading that me and my kin drink arab blood for passover...or that irans popular TV station shows my neighbor as someone who steal palestenains organs....

I disagree.....(surprise!).....when the palestenians appear on our talk shows and they are asked about it, some have been quite forthright about it and attempt to explain the cultural aspect of it. and then it gets very confusing as one is entering in to the murky world of east vs west cultural definitions.

and i freely admit to not really understanding it nor having enough info to understand and furthermore, my viewpoint is completely western in outlook and values (and liberal).

but what I do believe is important is to understand that in a liberal western society such things are simply not acceptable-no matter who says them, or why, and that the society also has a responsablilty towards them. That too is part of a liberal society-responsability


and no liberal of true upstanding would even think of defending such garbage no matter who is on the receiving end.
