Sharon plans to meet Abbas

Unfazed by PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas terming Israel the "Zionist enemy" on Tuesday, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon hopes to meet Abbas soon after his expected election as Palestinian leader on January 9, senior officials in the Prime Minister's Office said.
One official said that while no date has yet been set for a meeting, the discussion will certainly center on Palestinian Authority security and institutional reforms. And if Abbas takes actions to stop the terrorism and incitement, the two will discuss coordinating the disengagement plan.
Abbas's withering attack on Israel came in response to the killing of up to seven Palestinians by an IDF tank shell in Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip early Tuesday morning.
