Egyptian paper: Israel-India nuke test caused tsunami
Egyptian paper: Israel-India nuke test caused tsunami
By JOSEPH NASR
The earthquake that struck the Indian Ocean on December 26, triggering a series of huge waves called tsunami, "was possibly" caused by an Indian nuclear experiment in which "Israeli and American nuclear experts participated," an Egyptian weekly magazine reported Thursday.

According to Al-Osboa', India, in its heated nuclear race with Pakistan, has lately received sophisticated nuclear know-how from the United States and Israel, both of which "showed readiness to cooperate with India in experiments to exterminate humankind."

Since 1992, the magazine argued, leading geological centers in Britain, Turkey and other countries, warned of the need "not to hold nuclear experiments in the region of the Indian Ocean known as 'the Fire Belt,' in which the epicenter of the earthquake lies.

Geologists labeled that region 'The Fire Belt' for being "a dangerous terrain that can move at anytime, without human intervention," Al-Osboa' wrote.

1. ..read on...
``Incitement against Israel and Jews in Egyptian media is usually limited to the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict yet exceptions are known to occur. ``

2. I've never heard of Al-Osboa
It sounds about as reliaable as the Jerusalem Post. I wouldn't take anything they say seriously.

4. Actually they blame...
The U.S., Israel and India.

And this wild story came out immediately after the disaster struck.

Numerous threads have been posted (and deleted) about this in DU.

MSM has cherry-pcked threads like this to show how DU is populated by raving-nutters.

Nice job.

8. Of course we need this sort of drool here!
Where would this forum be without its 'Arafat was gay and had AIDS!' and Arafat and the 6 or 7 or 8 billion squillion dollars drool. This one's the new generation of slobbering drool that someone somewhere is absolutely totally positive our lives will not be fulfilled unless we read it!

12. Violet said it. That's good enough for me.
He died of AIDS, and it was covered up. Abbas was in on it too.
He stood to benefit, as one can easily see now that he has been
elected grand PoohBah of the PNA.

17. Locking
This is an inflammatory report concerning the Tsunami situation.

Note: There have been numerous conspiracy theories here in the West ranging from oil and gas exploration to HAARP to divine retribution (Phelps, etc.). The main problem with this conspiracy theory is that varied and easily discredited sources such as Al-Usbu (an Egyptian opposition paper known more for it's extreme anti-semitism) and a handful extremist clerics can garner greater press in the Occidental world than in the greater Arab world. It also tries and gives the impression that this is more than the work of a small few.

There is a difference between reporting the news and education versus catering the news to an audience that has picked what it wants to hear. The real discussion should have been why there is such a rush to report this as "news" when it is nothing more than sensationalism designed to draw attention to an agenda which would be ignored in a mundane situation. This is true for Al-Usbu and it is true for Fred Phelps.

The real net effect of all of these conspiracy theories is a very real effect on donations and support to the Tsunami relief efforts from both Oriental and Occidental sources.
