Bush: Palestinian statehood 'within reach'
I am an American Israeli, who would like to see a Palestinian state. However, I do have some concerns with this pledge. As we will need a very watchful eye to make sure these millions of dollars to bolster security, is used in that precise way. It hasn't always been the case in the past...

U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday pledged $350 million in aid to the Palestinians to bolster security and economic development, and said the goal of Palestinian statehood "is within reach."

Bush's State of the Union aid pledge - bigger than expected - was meant to demonstrate U.S. support for Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, elected last month to replace the late Yasser Arafat, whom Bush shunned as an obstacle to peace until his death.

"The beginnings of reform and democracy in the Palestinian territories are showing the power of freedom to break old patterns of violence and failure," Bush said in the speech.

"The goal of two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace is within reach - and America will help them achieve that goal," he added.

1. 2 points
#1-- Is the the same type of freedom he brought to Iraq? If it is they should be very afraid. America doesn't give without strings attached.

#2 --It sound like it has the usual won't ever happen strings attached. It's the old as long as there is no violence anywhere string. I don;t know where the rest of you live, but if that string was attached to federal funding for central florida, we wouldn't be getting any money. It's impossible to control everyone when there are so many people there. If he's serious about peace (ha ha I made a joke) he'll proceed with peace measures, no matter what the radicals may do to try and stop the process.

2. Oh, because all of our Israeli aid goes to "peace"
and not to bulldozing homes, using illegal flechette rounds, and fighter jets that assassinate suspected "terrorists" by firing missiles into crowded streets?
