hebron jewish settlers: NO respect for peace.
HEBRON: Settlers Attack and Badly Injure two Operation Dove Team Members in At-Tuwani

by Barbara Martens
February 16, 2005.

At 11:00 a.m. today while CPTer Dianna Zimmerman (Baltimore, MD) and an Operation Dove (OD) team member were accompanying shepherds on their own land above the Palestinian village of At-Tuwani, near the Israeli settler outpost of Ma'on, two settlers accosted them. One stood with his gun aimed at Zimmerman while she engaged the other in dialogue. When the Israeli army came the settlers left.

Shortly thereafter CPTer Sally Hunsberger (Washington, DC) and two OD members appeared over the crest of the hill after accompanying Palestinian shepherds in the direction of Tuba village. Settlers reappeared, noticed the video camera and attacked the two OD team members. One was seriously injured and was admitted to the hospital with a head injury and has short term memory loss and blurred vision. Hunsberger was not injured.

Italian attacked by Jewish settlers

An Italian peace activist has suffered a broken jaw and concussion after being attacked by a group of Jewish settlers in southern West Bank, a peace group said.

In October, two CPT activists were badly beaten by settlers from the outpost as they were accompanying a group of children to school.

2. extremists....
israelis in Hebron are the "worst of the worst" in terms of israelis.....extremists in every sense of the word....though they are now being exposed to the israeli public with the death threats against sharon etc. Hearing them talk is.......well it seems that god talks to them directly

3. I just wonder how much power these people have.
Are they able to drive the events, or at least stall them, as the extremists on the other side??

4. If they were in the US they would white sheeted KKKers

---like the Kahane crowd picketing school buses in the US. Every group has racists - Arabs, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Atheists, Agnostics ... maybe we are "hard wired" to be xenophobes.

BTW - Hebron is where Baruch Goldstein went to "recuperate from his breakdown" after he became "Bal Tshuvah"(Born Again - like GWB).

They are the David Duke element of the Israeli body politic (not even up there with the Frank Rizzo's and Trent Lott's and Strom Thurmond's) - and are so regarded that way by in excess of 85% of Israelis.

5. What you didn't mention...
was that just the same as the extremists on the other side, the settlers have wielded a lot of power totally out of proportion to their numbers and were able to move events to suit their own purposes. Which was what the previous poster asked, I think...

6. Funny, right wing loonies who claim "God Told Me"

have extraordinary political power, far out of proportion to their numbers - everywhere. Here in the States they are turning the States into the "Christian Evangelical Theocratic States of America" - with no abortions (as soon as Clarence T or Antonin S become Chief Justice and Gonzales gets named to the court), no stem cell research, "abstinence only" sex education, intelligent design in high school biology classes, multi million dollar fines for "porn" on tv, branding "Sponge Bob" part of the Gay Agenda". Very hung up on sex.

The Arkansas State Legislature declared the First Amendment's "establishment" and "free exercise" clauses "Un-American" and the Texas GOP State Committee declared the US to a "Christian Nation" and even California's Republican State Committee came out against Stem Cell Research, Abortion, and Gay Marriage.

That's the way those people pretend to think - everywhere -- Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, whatever.

It isn't unique to Likkudniks - or Rapture Republicans. It's a world wide phenomena, and it runs in cycles -- maybe something in the air or water or the tides or the earth's magnetic field.
