Re-vote in Gaza localities postponed

The Palestinian election commission on Tuesday postponed revoting in three Gaza localities, where the ruling Fatah challenged results but the victorious Hamas rejected the court rulings.

Voting in parts of the towns of Rafah and Beit Lahiya, as well as the Bureij refugee camp, was set for Wednesday, but Fatah agreed to the postponement after Hamas refused to take part.

Firaz Yaghni, the election commission director, said the postponement was declared "because of the tension in Gaza." No date for the new local voting has been set.

The decision was made after the Islamic movement announced that it would boycott the partial re-vote.
