Two hothouse workers killed in Gush Katif blast
Two hothouse workers were killed and six others were wounded Tuesday afternoon in a mortar shelling on hothouses in the Gaza Strip settlement bloc of Gush Katif.

One of the workers killed in the Ganei Tal settlement was Palestinian and the other was Chinese. All wounded were Palestinian, two of them sustaining critical wounds and the other four sustaining moderate injuries. They were all evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva.

The Islamic Jihad militant group claimed responsibility for the attack, Israel Radio reported.

Later on Tuesday four Qassam rockets hit open areas near four different communities in the Western Negev, Israel Radio reported. An hour earlier Palestinians fired an anti-tank missile at Israeli Defense Forces soldiers near Rafah. There were no casualties in either incident. Earlier in the day, the military wing of Hamas fired a volley of Qassam rockets and mortar shells from the Gaza Strip at Israeli towns and settlements, threatening the fragile lull in violence in recent months.

1. Oh, this is just wonderful.
Am I the only person who is starting to get upset already?

People are just trying to make a living here, and also produce FOOD, which is IMPORTANT. Isn't it?

What IS important here - jobs, food, employment, LIFE? Or death, destruction, and discord?

This is helping the Palestinian people? It is helping the peace process? What did these innocents do to deserve getting wounded and killed?

This was INEVITABLE, the rocket/mortar attacks have been missing or ONLY damaging property and ONLY sending people to the hospital with shock, but I guess they FINALLY got lucky.

I'm angry and I'm sad. Am I alone?

7. I'm beginning to agree with Benny Morris in his latest
work.

This is DEPRESSING. I don't see how we work with such hatred. And I'm starting to get mad at all the blame sent our way. It never struck me as just and increasingly it is making me more upset.

What can we do? We've got terrorists killing innocent people all OVER the place, and WE are the ones being blamed, vilified and disrepected.

9. Terrorist groups attract
the ideological, ideologues, fanatics, and downright cold blooded murderers.
The key is to sideline line as many of the latter of that list as possible through painful, and at times seemingly pointless negotiation. Long and arduous it is, but worth it if less are murdered.
The ex-terrorists in Northern Ireland since the Good Friday agreement have fallen into categories roughly covering; normal working people, Politicians, community leaders, and cold blooded murdering gangsters. The latter will always exist.

10. Terrorist groups always attract
coldblooded killers, who will simply kill for the sake of killing with a particular passion to a cause not being the driving motivation. See my post i sent drdon and try and keep your chin up cb

12. Thanks, Bennywhale! I'm just so sad and discouraged, and
I mourn those people and their families, and hope the others who were hurt recover soon.

Take care and blessings!

14. I have no idea as to percentage and wouldn't like to guess, but if you
look at all terrorist networks the world over, a small percentage has always gone on into other industries of murder. Gangsterism, Mercenaries for other terrorist groups etc.

Three IRA men were recently arrested supplying arms to FARC. Old members of ETA are now hitmen, and in the conflict i know most about, many terrorists/paramilitaries are now gangsters and are particularly murderous, even (and often more so in the form of "punishment beatings" and killings) on their own community. I may have mentioned in past posts Robert McCartney who was "gutted from groin to throat" by an IRA member and alleged defender of Robert McCartney's community.

When (and it must be when) peace comes, most of Hamas will cease to become terrorists, however a small number will go on murdering, either still in the middle East, or whoring their bloody talents to other areas of misery.

15. The "Human Condition" - sometimes it really is terrible.
So as you say, even when the Palestinian state is real, free and democratic, there will still be violence and criminals.

I think, that is one of the chief woes for Jews today: the burden of Israeli statehood, long sought and gladly borne - also carries with it the recognition of individual crime, corruption, and violence - plus the inevitable moral compromises involved in managing the day-to-day business of statehood. This would be true even if Eretz Israel hadn't been born and living in a war zone.

Sometimes I think, that's the kernel of truth in the messianic philosophy that Israel shouldn't have been created until the Messiah came. Until then, she's gonna have to grub around down here with the rest of the human race:)

For myself, the earthly sins of statehood haven't compromised the core values of Judaism. And in any case I don't see how we had a choice. But statehood has tested them, and tested all of us.
