IDF nabs female would-be suicide bomber at Erez crossing

Israel Defense Forces soldiers on Monday caught a female would-be suicide bomber at the entrance to the Erez border crossing in the northern the Gaza Strip. The woman, who was carrying 10 kg of explosives in her pants, had a permit to enter Israel to receive medical treatment. Following the incident the IDF closed the crossing for traffic, and reopened it a few hours later.

The incident came as the Head of the Military Intelligence Research Division, Brigadier General Yosef Kuperwasser, said earlier on Monday that the Palestinian Authority "excels at doing nothing in the fight against terrorism."

The would-be suicide bomber, 21-year-old Wafa Samir Ibrahim, resident of the Jebalia refugee camp was sent by the Al-Aqsa Martyr Brigades, a military offshoot of the Fatah movement, to carry out a suicide bombing attack.

Ibrahim had been in the past to the Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva to receive medical treatment for severe burns she sustained from a gas balloon that exploded next to her six months ago. She needed to reach the hospital for medical tests.

The woman said she did not plan on carrying out the attack at the Soroka hospital but in another hospital, not specifying its name.

1. it depends?

if the Palestinians send thankyou cards after american made helicopter gunships fire missiles in towns filled with innocent civilians,which is illegal under international law,in a area occupied illegally contrary to that same international law?
Maybe if the illegally occupied palestinians were supplied with those same american made missile firing helicopter gunships there wouldnt be any Palestinians using their own bodies as guided missiles?

just for the sake of argument..if the palestenains had gunships (i.e. like the syrian air force)....there would a lot more civilian palestenian deaths as those same gunships fell from the sky onto gaza city, jeballiya refuge camp, etc....and then we would right back where we are today..

so, now the palestenains are using those with medical conditions to enter into israel with bombs...in the past its been kids, older women, etc.....meaning even the humanitarian aspect is not longer reasonable..woe to the IDF soldier who lets his humaness overcome his orders to the pleas of a palestenain with a medical condition and lets them enter israel to go to a "hospital"......

Not necessarily illegal; the laws of war recognize various sorts of situations where attacking an enemy is permitted, even if he's surrounded by civilians, and you know some of them will be killed as a result (for that matter, there are circumstances where they allow deliberate targeting of civilians) - for starters, see GC4, Article 28. And the legal status of the occupation is irrelevent to that question.

Well, they used to have an army (look up the Palestine Liberation Army). I don't recall hearing of any significant drop in attacks against Israeli civilians during that time.

Besides, the only way what armament they have is even relevent is if you want to claim that they're justified in attacking civilians (hospitals, in this case) if they lack the capablitiy to atack military targets. Fascinating. If so, then if the get heavy weaponry as you suggest, must they then refrain from attacking civilian targets? And if Israel defeats them on the battlefield, are they once again allowed to attackIsraeli civilians.

dont have any illusions about it.....those in gaza will not stop all of a sudden shooting mortors and kassams....it will go on.

we'll just be in a better defensive position physically and morally. We can hardly give the palestenains more if they cant even controll gaza

but of course there is that slight chance that they might do something good about gaza...maybe, but its up to them
