Palestinian gunmen beat senior aide to PA security chief Yusef
In the latest of a series of violent incidents involving power struggles within the Palestinian Authority, Palestinian gunmen Tuesday severely beat a senior aide to chief PA security official General Nasser Yusef.

The assailants, whose identity is unknown, reportedly opened fire to halt a car carrying PA Ministry of Interior and National Security Director-General Ibrahim Salama on his way from Jerusalem to the West Bank city of Ramallah. He sustained injuries all over his body, and was later hospitalized. His injuries were not life-threatening.

This incident was seen as another in a series of internal attempts within the Authority to depose Yusef, the new Minister of the Interior and Defense, who holds key authority over PA security arms.

There has been much internal confrontation and chaos within the PA Defense Ministry of late, resulting in a number of deaths and serious injuries. These have mostly been due to a lack of trust between Yusef and other senior defense officials, who are said to have defied orders given them by Yusef and by prime-minister Mahmoud Abbas.

1. Boys will be boys...
It's really nice to see how well they're adjusting to their new roles in the PA.

3. Masked gunmen wound PA official
A senior Palestinian Authority official was critically wounded in an attack by masked gunmen in Ramallah Tuesday morning. Ibrahim Salameh, director of the office of Interior Minister Nasser Youssef, was on his way to work when the attackers opened fire at his vehicle in one of the southern suburbs of the city.

The gunmen then forced Salameh, 38, out of the car and beat him with clubs and sharp objects, according to a statement released by the PA Interior Ministry.

Salameh was rushed to Ramallah's Sheikh Zayed Hospital, where doctors said he was in critical condition.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes amid growing lawlessness in PA-controlled areas. However, various sources in the city said they believed the assault was linked to a power struggle that has been waging for months inside the ruling Fatah party.

Maybe they were "oppressed insurgent freedom-fighters " who did it.
