Jerusalem barrier meant to ensure Jewish majority, official says
Security not sole issue, Israeli notes

By Associated Press | July 12, 2005

JERUSALEM -- Israel's separation barrier in Jerusalem is meant to ensure a Jewish majority in the city and not merely serve as a buffer against bombers, an Israeli Cabinet minister acknowledged yesterday.

The statement by Haim Ramon, the minister in charge of Jerusalem, confirmed Palestinian assertions that demographics -- and not only security -- determined the barrier route.

The plan would separate 55,000 Palestinians from the city that both sides want as a capital, bringing to the fore a volatile disagreement over who controls the holy city and where its boundaries should be. The government approved the plan's final details Sunday.

4. Kinda like the US Southwest
1. With our material breach of the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo.

2. With every Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California Conservative backing the Minute Men militia and a barrier on the Mexican War Armistice Line (read the history of the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo - it's only an Armistice Line).

3. With America's retreat from bi-lingualism and America's demand for "English Only" and "English is the Only Official Language for conducting Business" Laws (and even an annually introduced Constitutional Amendment)

4. Oregon's Ballot Measure 6 (1922) banning Catholic Schools - Pierce v. Society of Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, 268 U.S. 510 (1925) - a decision as well greeted by min stream America as Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade.

So let me follow the logic -- when one cabinet members says Israelis seek hegemony it is racism, neoconism, fascism, apartheid --- but when white, Anglo Saxon, plurality group Americans do it (Like Congressman Tancrato and Issa ...) it's baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, mom, and chevrolet -- and when the good people of Oregon seek to ban Catholic schools .....

6. Guardian - Wall makes Jerusalem 'more Jewish'
'Chris McGreal
Tuesday July 12, 2005
The Guardian

An Israeli cabinet minister has described the concrete and steel barrier under construction through Jerusalem as making the city "more Jewish", contradicting the government's assertion that the towering wall dissecting Arab neighbourhoods is solely a security measure.

"The fence was born, first and foremost, to prevent them from continuing to murder us," Haim Ramon, the Jerusalem minister, told Israel radio. But, he added, the barrier "also makes it more Jewish. The safer and more Jewish Jerusalem will be, it can serve as a true capital of the state of Israel."

Ariel Sharon has repeatedly denied that there is a political dimension to the barrier. But opponents of the wall will seize on Mr Ramon's comments as further evidence that it is a tool to maintain what the Israelis call the "demographic balance" in Jerusalem, where about two-thirds of the population is Jewish.

Mr Ramon also said he was pleased that a number of Jerusalem's Arab neighbourhoods fall on the West Bank side of the barrier, isolating them from the city while effectively enclosing tens of thousands of Jewish settlers within Jerusalem. "I don't think anybody is sorry about this," said Mr Ramon.'

7. making the city safer and making it "more Jewish"
are not contradictions. One could argue that they are closely related. Chris McGeal makes a nice leap of logic with that one.

Note the use of the word "also", indicating "in addition to"...

In any event, this is simply the two-state solution. Having one state with both Muslims and Jews equally represented is ideal, but not realistic (for EITHER side) at this point in time, IMO.

8. The contradiction, was that the purpose of the wall....
as stated by Israeli officials is that it is a security measure.
Ramon's comments illustrate that security is not the only purpose
of the wall,& that it is being built to change the demographics,
that there is a political dimension to it's construction & the location
of the barrier.

How is this part of the two-state solution?
Isn't this part of the exclusively-Jewish-solution?

9. it becomes two states by default
whatever the PA on the other side of the fence want to do is their business. If they want to create a Palestinian nation, by all means. That is, I believe, the purpose of the disengagement. There are many pros and cons of course, but I think the end of the occupation should be the primary goal. Its a good first step, no?

10. Very interesting question "How Is This Part of A Two State Solution?"
How is this part of the two-state solution?
Isn't this part of the exclusively-Jewish-solution?

Ah yes!

One side is plurality Jewish.

The other other side is absolutely free of Jews (Dhimmi = Jim Crow = Apartheid), id est, a Palestinian State.
