From AFP: Arafat loyalist pledges willingness to fight to the death

Professing his complete loyalty to Yasser Arafat, Mohammed Abu Arraj says he is prepared for a fight Israel to the death despite the veteran Palestinian leader's call to renew a shattered truce.
"Truce? What truce?" asks Abu Arraj, a local leader of the hardline Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, who spent last week fighting with his men against Israeli tanks in this northern West Bank town. <...>

1. Thanks for posting this link.
Great site. Fantastic cartoon. The whole Palestinians portrayed as dogs thingy is a hoot. Plus they have some nice 'Bush in 2004' T-shirts for sale. Bought yours yet?

2. I wonder what the response would be...
if Israelis were depicted as dogs. Well, the only question would be what decibel level would be achieved.

Nice right-wing hate site, BTW. A real contribution to the discourse. So, do you see Palestinians as dogs? And while we're at it, is transfer a dirty word?

3. A question for the moderator:
Why is it that this particular poster has been allowed to repeatedly post garbage from right-wing hate sites in a so-called “Progressive” forum?

Yes Cox and Forkum is extremely biased, but it is still on the "respectable" side of the line w/r to being allowed.

As such, it depends on the context and actual material being presented as to what happens to a particular post. (We treat each one on a case by case presentation).

10. Why is it considered respectable?
I've looked at it and it's nothing but right-wing, hate-mongering crud that thrives on stereotypes. What's more it appears to be nothing more than a blog that posts articles from sometimes credible sources. Does that mean that if drdon took to posting articles directly from LGF that would be allowed too?

Violet...

For the public benefit. Graphics other than maps and charts are not allowed in the I/P forum. You posted the picture while DrDon posted the link.

12. C&F
C&F are the political cartoonists for the magazine _The Intellectual Activist_ which is an Objectivist oriented magazine which espouses Ayn Rand's "philosphy".

16. For the most part, I agree with that....
Just so long as articles aren't too bad.

It's not like they're allowed to get away with the stuff that they would on LGF and other places, right? This way, they can show some of their true colors and be made to behave or leave. People actually learn when they have to behave in my opinion.

25. Reposting Aidoneus' article
Sans picture.

Ayn Rand Institute, Capitalism Magazine, Daniel Pipes, Little Green Footballs, Right Wing News, Andrew Sullivan, {some other people I'm not as familiar with}..

the site is trash, but I don't think it should be made verboten here, nor do I think drdon should be stopped from posting from it. Something that speaks so clearly as to where a person is coming from is useful for exactly that reason.

But you are right, I should have included the link, sorry.

26. The forum admins are not obligated to be neutral

They have their own views, and it is their site.

Whatever accountability they have is not to the posters, and they have every right to express their views and allow, even encourage material that depicts Palestinians as dogs while taking a very firm position against criticism of such portrayals, the policies of the Likud party, or the views of Rabbi Ovadia Yusuf.

While free speech is at least on paper guaranteed by the constitution, privately owned message boards are not bound by this, and can set any rules they wish. They don't have to be either "fair" or "balanced."

4. All of you listen
Arafat or any of his henchman portrayed as animals is accurate. Support for Israel should not be disqualified if from a conservative.

7. Honestly, Mr. Herschel
Should someone follow with a depiction of Sharon in porcine guise, your defense of it will be eagerly awaited.

People on both sides of this matter need to keep an eye out on who may be beside them: a reactionary's support for Israel is not necessarily too helpful to that state, or particularly compatible with this forum. Just as an Anti-Semite's or a deluded conspiracist's support is not too helpful to the cause of Arab Palestine.

It is only when such behaviour is exhibited that one truly recognises the blinkers that some people choose to wear.

15. I admit I am not familiar
With this source. I was asserting that support for Israel need not be scorned simply because it does not come from our Democratic party or traditional liberal sources. If Republicans or conservatives were to support a Democratic value, aside from support for Israel, I believe most here would be gratified.

17. For Herschel, supporters for Israel....
The problem with conservative supporters for Israel is that they're often very bigoted. That's not always true, but it is many times. They have an anti-Arab, anti-Muslim tone to them or they are out in the open with their bigotry. If they could make their case for Israel without being anti-Arab and anti-Muslim, then they might have more respect.

I'm just speaking of anybody who is bigoted who advocates for Israel (most of them are Conservative).

And yes, there are bigots advocating for other nations too. I don't think that their bigotry should be tolerated either.

23. To be fair
Usually the Neo-cons tend to advocate for Israel, the Paleo-cons, such as Buchanan, tend to be against Israel and Jews. So based on that logic, I can (erroneously) call everyone here a Conservative.
