POLL: Do you believe any 9/11 conspiracy theories?
9/11 conspiracy theorists multiply
Many Americans suspect U.S. government involvement or complicity
The Washington Post
MSNBC NEWS POLL
Sept 8, 2006

<snip>

"There was massive complicity in this attack by U.S. government operatives."

If that feels like a skip off the cliff of established reality, more Americans are in free fall than you might guess. There are few more startling measures of American distrust of leaders than the widespread belief that the Bush administration had a hand in the attacks of Sept. 11 in order to spark an invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq.

A recent Scripps Howard/Ohio University poll of 1,010 Americans found that 36 percent suspect the U.S. government promoted the attacks or intentionally sat on its hands. Sixteen percent believe explosives brought down the towers. Twelve percent believe a cruise missile hit the Pentagon.

2. yes
Those buildings were deliberately demolished. I am not sure who did it.

The one thing I am sure of is that we were lied to.

3. The only conspiracy theory I'm absolutely sure I don't believe
is the fairy tale spun by the Bush Crime Family, the so-called official U.S. Government version.

4. I absolutely believe
there was/is a conspiracy. Cheney, Rove, Bush are all very capable of having Americans killed just so they can gain power over us, breaking any/all laws to get there.

8. There's too much accumulative evidence ...
for it not to be a conspiracy. You might dismiss a few claims, but all in all if you don't believe the conspiracy aspect then one would have to believe that coincidences are the norm rather than the exception.

9. No, not really
The only "conspiracy theory" I believe is that the admin tried to cover up their massive incompetence in the months preceding the attacks.

11. I think you mean "cover up. . . in the months AFTER the attacks"
In that vein, I recall two excellent quotes that say it all:

"Never attribute to conspiracy that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
Robert A Heinlein

"Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence."
Napoleon Bonaparte

My take? Bushco is too incompetent to do this kind of MIHOP/LIHOP stuff the conspiracy theorists espouse. But give them credit, they have been geniuses at exploiting 9/11 and fear-mongering. Until Hurricane Katrina struck.

14. I totally 100% agree
I really think some of the folks subscribing to all the theories truly can't grasp the fact that there is a group of religious fanatics out there that willing to do this shit.

Which if you think about it, they should be able to see it clear as day cause we're probably only a few generations away from the religious fanatics in this country doing the exact same shit.

10. No.
Any government that has proven its incompetency (as this one has) couldn't have intentionally caused the attacks.

19. Incompetence?
They appear incompetent mostly to those unfamiliar with their past. The response to Katrina was no accident. The incarceration of prisoners without due process and their torture was policy. The Patriot Act had been conceptualied years before 9/11. We can't accept bigotry as moral incompetence. I suggest a review of the history of the 20th century.

17. 48% yes, 45% no, 6% not sure
That's the tally as I write this. Not scientific, of course, but lends some additional credence to the Scripps-Howard scientific poll from last month which showed 36% believing something about government involvement.

Truth is coming, people.
