2. WTC7 is the building on the right in the foreground with the
burnt out firetruck and burnt out car beside it.

If I'm not mistaken, that walkway you see is the one that extended across Vesey Street to the space between WTC5 (on the left) and WTC6 on the right in the background.

For bearing, it appears that the photo was taken on West Broadway, facing south/slightly south-east). West Broadway is the eastern border of WTC7, if that helps.

The smoke, though, which appears to be lit up by the sun on Vesey Street, appears in that picture to be coming not from WTC6, though, but from the front (Vesey Street side) of WTC7.

3. You must be familiar with that area?
Hard to say where the white smoke is coming from. However the point of the picture is that people claim that the south side of WTC 7 had a raging fire that brought down the building because they seen pictures of smoke, yet no one has a picture of a fire on the south side of WTC7.

Another odd thing about this pic aside is what looks like an open door on the side of WTC7? Or is that just something laying up against the building?

BTW: Welcome to the DUngeon. :hi:

4. Yes, I am familiar with the area.
I agree with you that it is hard to see where the smoke is coming from because looking at still photographs of fluid events is rarely conclusive. However, I offered my opinion on that based on the photograph you posted because it sounded like you were saying that the smoke was coming from WTC6 and it just doesn't look like that from your photograph. Just my opinion, of course.

It is not surprising to me that there are not many pictures of the south side of WTC7, by the way, for the very reason that geography dictated that there was little to no access to vantage points on the south side after the twin towers fell.

About the 'open door' part of your post, the part of the picture that shows the east side of WTC7 is very strange because the building did not actually have wavy lines like those shown in the photograph and it didn't have a door in that location. My guess is that those wavy lines and the 'door' shape are the result of a some kind of camera/film/developing anomoly because neither the wavy lines or the 'door' existed in that location.

Thank you for the welcome.

5. The wavy lines in the picture are called moray
It's a visual effect that happens in images under some conditions but has nothing to do with the building itself.

The object next to the building is another matter though. It is real and casts a shadow. I just don't know if it a 'door' or something that fell down from the collapse of the towers and ended up leaning next to WTC 7?

The white steaming looking thin smoke is probably coming from the collapse zone where there was a lot of that type of smoke coming up for days.

Part of the reason for my sarcastic post is in response to an ongoing argument from the OCTers that there was a raging fire on the south side of WTC 7 of which there is no visual evidence.

7. "Moire'", not "moray"
I had a video card that had a real problem with these - that's how I know (I had to read lots of crap about this). Anytime it would render something that created a Moire' pattern it would do this weird rainbow color thing that really screwed up the image, but it was a hardware problem and couldn't be fixed. What a waste of money, but I learned my lesson - I've not bought hardware since without reading a number of reviews first.

6. Actually, that moray effect may be from a design pattern
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 07:21 AM by DoYouEverWonder
that was part of the east wall. You can see it here in this pic:

I guess it was some building designers idea of adding an 'artistic' element.

Edit: I never noticed it before but it reminds me of one of these:

WTC 7 was aka: the Solomon Bros. building.
