Operation Garden Plot is "the program to control the population." <1> (http://utah.indymedia.org/news/2003/07/5561.php)

"Operation Garden Plot is the code name for the use of coordinated military action in law enforcement at any time during a civil disturbance within the fifty states, District of Columbia, and possessions and territories The operation of the FBI's COINTELPRO Domestic Counter Intelligence Program, FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency, and JTTF Joint Terror Task Force, all give the government the authority to step in and immediately crush any civil disturbance or turmoil which might occur. Civil disturbances are defined as riots, acts of violence, insurrection, unlawful obstruction or assemblage, or other disorders prejudicial to public law and order." <2>

18. Not all the conspiracy theories get shunted here
The ones pertaining to voting machines get sent to the Election Reform forum to comingle with the serious people working for or trying to understand voting in the 21st century.

I think it would be nice to have a general PCT dungeon though for the stuff like this.

IMO 9/11 CT threads dwarf any other genre - would you want to keep them separate?

23. The problem with 9-11 and election reform
Is that there are legitimate problems with each that do deserve discussion. Of course we're much more likely to effect election reform than getting a truly objective, in depth and independent investigation of the events that led to 9-11. The conspiracy theories detract from legitimate conversation.

Things like the FEMA detention camp PCT though I can see no legitimate discussion about liberal and progressive politics arising from them. They're nothing but far right wing conspiracy theories that some poor credulous sod on the left has bought into. Don't get me wrong, I think all conspiracism needs to be both debunked and understood. Because conspiracism exists as a narrative form of scapegoating it can lead to perverse social effects, and has historically.

So yeah, I think there's good cause to separate the 9-11 and election reform paranoid conspiracy theories from the other loony toons.

30. You're stuck on the wrong pivot, salvor
'Legitimate' and 'illegitimate' are terms that characterize apreference in a society at a given time. They are in the eyes of the beholder, and their eyesight has a way of changing with time.

You don't hear people talking about 'illegitimate' children anymore, do you? And why not? Because of a late-coming recognition that the term ill-defines a moral distinction between two types of children that should not obtain. That's been corrected.

So too will it be with the 'illegitimacy' of conspiracy theory. Whether a particular conspiracy theory, in particular, turns out to be true or not, theorizing them is perfectly legitimate given the sociopolitical realities of our time. The so-called paranoid style is somewhat appropriate and getting more appropriate all the time, if the flow of actual events are taken as the measure of appropriateness. It seems conspiracy theories explain certain events as well, or better, than the establishment theories. 9/11 is a good example of this.

The sociopolitical atmosphere is one in which political conspiracies can and do thrive. That makes theorizing them legitimate, though in every case they must be convincingly argued for. You apparently are blind to that.

Conspiracism writ large is deeply flawed and unconvincing explanatory model for world events. So too, of course is enlightenment narrative of progressive rationality, yet it is still considered 'legitimate' in many circles and widely in use, despite having been widely discredited.

The only important pivot is between "supported" and "unsupported" theories. All else is fashion.

This is not a FEMA detention camp. It's Amtrak's Beech Grove repair facility.
http://tbedwell.smugmug.com/gallery/230820

Per a commenter on another video at YouTube:
Beech Grove is the heavy maintenance and repair facility for most of Amtrak's passenger equipment. Most notably the Superliners (double decked cars) and P42 diesel locomotives. So apart from any wreck damaged equipment...which I didn't see...not too much to be scared by.

But to this Railfan the footage was at least interesting.

for a "sudden influx of illegal immigrants, and other purposes."

Don't let this kind of stuff get to ya - the people who go down that paranoid road are trained professionals, don't try this at home. :)

That tape is extreme HYPE. It is a classic example of biased reporting.

"A bring building, suitable for processing"

1. That is her judgement.
2. She implies that it has no other uses so "processing" must be the use. Hell, any brick building could "process". Likely it is a warehouse.
3. Nothing worth stealing? Thieves will steal copper electrical wiring to sell for scrap. Since it is a repair facility, it must have TOOLS. Tools are very valuable. If you have any tools, try leaving them lying around outside and see how long you keep them.
4. The Air Force locomotive. Hey, it is a TRAIN REPAIR FACILITY. So the the Air Force wants a locomotive overhauled? That is spooky scarry?
5. Electronic turnstiles are ominous????? Damn. The zoo uses those for their exit doors. I guess the zoo is a secret processing facility??

Everything in that video is rather ordinary, but by biased and dishonest reporting is made to sound like a concentration camp is being built.

News Analysis/Commentary, Peter Dale Scott,
New America Media, Feb 08, 2006
Editor's Note: A little-known $385 million contract for Halliburton subsidiary KBR to build detention facilities for "an emergency influx of immigrants" is another step down the Bush administration's road toward martial law, the writer says.

BERKELEY, Calif.--A Halliburton subsidiary has just received a $385 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security to provide "temporary detention and processing capabilities."

kbrThe contract -- announced Jan. 24 by the engineering and construction firm KBR -- calls for preparing for "an emergency influx of immigrants, or to support the rapid development of new programs" in the event of other emergencies, such as "a natural disaster." The release offered no details about where Halliburton was to build these facilities, or when.

29. This video is complete BS. I've seen it before, and it's whipped air.
It is, simply put, an old Amtrak facility that the narrator tries to build into something suspicious by using the classic CT technique of the unexplained sinister implication. Like saying the thing about "large furnaces," trying to evoke images of extermination camps, or referring to a radio tower as a "guard tower," saying that an abandoned US Air Force locomotive is "clear evidence of military involvement," or a dozen other things. I don't find it that mysterious that a repair depot, which apparently has no one standing watch over it, would have fences and electronic doors to prevent unauthorized people from getting in.

If anybody has any questions, I'd be happy to debunk it point by point.

31. I think it's hype

like no-planes and holograms, put something speculative out there to make it seem obvious to the critical thinker.
But I haven't been there and I don't know who owns it or if FEMA has paid for it.

Instead of taking Rex-84, Civilian Inmate Labor Program, Operation Garden Plot and DHS declassified documents and showing them.
