Tin Hat Alert - Manhattan odors - how do we know that some
agency of the Federal government isn't running some sort of experiments in NYC by deliberately planting odors to measure the spread and the official reaction? We know that in the past various agencies ran germ warfare tests by planting agents in subways.

4. Your tin hat must be stealing my brain waves
This is exactly what I was thinking.

The chemical added to such things as propane (and maybe even natural gas)is designed so people can smell it easily as a method of alerting for gas leaks. It is harmless at low levels. Seems like a perfect agent to use if one wanted to test dispersal patterns of an airborne contagion or chemical weapon.

5. Naaaa, they would never do that...
Just like the CIA would never test aerial spraying of the flu virus over the U.S. in the 1950's that is well documented.

Naaaa, never happen.

7. I was thinking the same thing. Could be the government OR terrorists
Of course, either way, should this happen often enough, people may develop "Threat Fatigue" related to "Mystery Odors," and the citizens of Manhattan will learn to ignore "The Boy Who Smelled Wolf," by the time a real threat emerges.

8. The military does have a department
that studies the effect of odors on crowd control (you can imagine what they might use to disperse a crowd), so it is possible, so tin hat is not necessary. There are tons of articles online about it. That, combined with the birds in Austin made me think something was up or maybe it was a diversion for something else, or maybe even a coincidence. The sad thing is we no longer have any kind of media that we can count on to tell us the truth, it is a propaganda machine similar to that of the Soviet union in it's heyday. Anyone who says they are sure of anything the corporate media tells or shows you is either a fool or a liar.
