I'm looking for some information
Can someone please tell me at What Time
the First order for all planes to land Immediately was announced.

I think orders came from more than one place. Sorry, it's kind of foggy.

(9:45 a.m.) September 11, 2001: Senior FAA Manager, on His First Day on the Job, Orders All Planes Out of the Sky Nationwide

Ben Sliney, FAA’s National Operations Manager, orders the entire nationwide air traffic system shut down. All flights at US airports are stopped. Around 3,950 flights are still in the air. Sliney makes the decision without consulting FAA head Jane Garvey, Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, or other bosses, but they quickly approve his actions. It’s Sliney’s first day on the job. Seventy-five percent of the planes land within one hour of the order. The 9/11 Commission will later remark that this “was an unprecedented order” that the “air traffic control system handled… with great skill.” <9/11 Commission, 7/24/2004, pp. 29> The Washington Post has reported that Mineta told Monte Belger at the FAA: “Monte, bring all the planes down,” even adding, “ pilot discretion.” However, it is later reported by a different Post reporter that Mineta did not even know of the order until 15 minutes later. This reporter “says FAA officials had begged him to maintain the fiction.”

8. 9:45am?
something about that time table doesn't make sense.

Here's why.

I was watching the coverage on ABC and heard Peter Jennings make a statement that all planes were ordered down at the nearest airport. If it was at 9:45 then Delta 89 would have almost been landing at Cleveland close to the moment Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania, which I believe is the official story.

The problem with that time line is that after, some time after hearing all planes were ordered out of the sky to land at the nearest airport, I heard a plane flying too high to land. Jennings said several times there was a flight out and unaccounted for.

Because of the urgency and emotion of Jennings repeating this errant plane and my having heard this flight that should have landed at the airport less than 30 minutes by car from me, I called the Secret Service. According to the Official story this was Delta Flight 89 turning around at Toledo. Moments after I spoke to the Secret Service Jennings said, there's a plane down in Pennsylania. No more reports from Jennings about the missing flight after that.

I sat here for what seemed like a.long.time. after hearing that plane and calling SS. I couldn't have waited a mere 15 minutes it seems.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

9. It's Thompson's timeline

I believe if you look further, United had already ordered their pilots to land at the nearest airport.

There were thousands of planes flying in the US at the time. It's not as if they all landed right away. There are only so many runways, which each have only so much capacity.

"this flight that should have landed at the airport less than 30 minutes by car from me"

Was it a commercial plane? How many planes were stacked up in a holding pattern while they were bringing them down?

10. There were a couple of local ground stops before the nationwide one.
New York was a big one. Maybe that's the one Jennings referred to.

16. Thompson's timeline has

Delta 1989 landing at Cleveland at 10 after 10.

http://www.historycommons.org/context.jsp?item=a930deltamistake#a930deltamistake

There were still plenty of planes that had not landed by 10:10 - for example the business jet that was asked about whether it could make visual contact at Shanksville.

How is that you know the airline and flight number of a plane which you observed in the sky and was "too high to land" while watching TV?

18. I live near an airport
Toledo Express, home of the Air National Guard and also commercial flights. Air Force One has landed here many times so it's not a question of landing strip length to land.

Living this close to the airport I gotten used to the sound of the flights. It's pretty easy to tell which planes are flying beyond to Chicago or elsewhere and which are low enough to land.

On that day it was eerily quiet and the skies were clear blue with NO air traffic aside from perhaps some early morning flights.

The only explanation for that plane at that time according to the reports, was that it was Delta 89 turning around at Toledo.

Are you doubting me or just curious?

19. Just curious

There were thousands of planes trying to land at the time and stacked up all over the country, and in patterns which were by no means usual.

There's not enough information to "doubt" what you saw "at that time", since your description of events is devoid of what "that time" was.

Getting the flight number correct would help, too.

Your OP said "Sorry it's foggy" and then you said "some time after hearing all planes were ordered out of the sky to land at the nearest airport, I heard a plane flying too high to land".

So we have a couple of events:

1. The order to land, which Thompson puts at 9:45
2. You hearing a report of it on the news at an undefined point in time.
3. You observing a plane "some time" after hearing a report on the news.

It took a long time to get all of the planes out of the sky. If you can land a plane a minute, and you've got 100 planes to land, it's going to be an hour and a half before you land all of those planes.

20. I should have known
better than to bother with this back and forth bullshit.

No wonder this forum has such a reputation. I ask a simple question and get arguments from somebody with an ax to grind on someone.

A Conspiracy forum isn't such a bad place to have, at least there is somewhere is discuss "conspiracy", but my time is better spent listening for planes.

21. You asked a question - "when was the order given"
Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 03:38 PM by jberryhill
I gave you a reference to Thompson's timeline, which pegs it at 9:45.

You're welcome.

You saw a plane in the sky sometime after that order. I'm curious about why you think it must be Delta 1989. Nobody is arguing with you. Your statement about Delta 1989 is too vague to argue with. So, you saw Delta 1989. And?

Sorry to offend, but you got an answer to your question.

And thanks for robbing the joy about the shoe tossing. That animated gif goes over the line.

However, now that I think about it -- isn't that a mixed message for you? Didn't Bushco plan all of that? Are you suggesting that the Iraqi journalist was planned by the Bush Administration and the powers that be? Or don't you realize that the implied message of the gif is that the planes were part and parcel of the same impulse that caused the journalist to throw the shoes -- blowback for American policies in the Gulf region? In other words, the "official story's" motivation for the attacks?

What is it you're trying to say?

When did *you* become the one who decides who someone replies to, or how they reply? If you're *that* lonely for attention, get a cat or something..
