More Exploding Manholes In New York

An exploding manhole on West 40th Street in Midtown shot flames three stories high at 1:40 p.m. Monday, and at least one other manhole cover blew off, fire officials said. No injuries were immediately reported. After the explosion, a firefighter yelled: “It’s not Disneyland, people. Get the hell out of the way.”

Can you imagine how many transformers would blow if there were a sudden disruption to the electric, steam and other utilities in a given area in NYC?

I imagine we should figure out why so many explosives are stored under the streets of New York, since it is impossible, I tell ya, to have explosions in New York without explosives.

2. I think the key code phrase here is "It's not Disneyland, people"

Disneyland is famous for coining the term "imagineering" which manipulates people using optical, audio and animatronic fakery into believing illusions.

Obviously, bystanders were not sure whether the explosion was fake, so they needed to be "prompted" by a pre-planted officer to drill into their minds - "It's not Disneyland, people" - so that they would respond appropriately to this psy-op. Either that, or he was remotely communicating with the base that the synthetic experience was not sufficiently immersive.

I'm sure we have experts here who could help out.

12. In Brooklyn, manhole explosions in 1950 were due to gasoline leaking

into the sewage system. At Greenpoint, which had the largest known spill 30 years ago in U S history(maybe equal to the current one, but bigger than the Valdez) although no one ever talks about it in the national media and it is in such a densely populated area! Also the oil seeps into groundwater and since Newton creek empties into the East River it seems it would have made it's way into Manhattan..... (The Hudson is full of PCB's from a General Electric spill upriver decades ago)
