A personal experience...
Edited on Thu Sep-16-10 09:07 PM by SDuderstadt
after another member here mentioned it, I looked up the made-for-tv movie, "The Trial of Lee Harvey Oswald", a somewhat cheesy movie with Ben Gazzara and Lorne Greene. The acting was fairly mediocre and I was surprised at how many alternative theories were woven into the plot.

But, here's what I was unprepared for. Even though the movie was interspersed with historical footage, when they got to the assassination scene, they recreated it without the gory parts using actors rather than using the Zapruder footage. Much to my surprise, as the limo turned onto Elm Street, I found myself choking up, then tears started to roll down my face with the first shot (actually, the 2nd, since the first one completely missed). As I awaited the fatal headshot, I completely lost it. Even though I was just a kid in '63, JFK was and remains my idol to this day. I often wonder what would have happened had JFK lived, secured a second term and, hopefully, was able to achieve more of his vision.

Oddly, the closest thing that has happened to that is when I went to see "Bobby", Emilio Estevez's excellent film about RFK. Although I was pretty much prepared for what I would see (I was still a kid in '68 and went to bed after Bobby won California, but before he was shot. I woke up the next day in a joyous mood, as I was volunteering in his campaign. I was quite literally crushed and found myself unable to do much of anything at all), I was totally unprepared that Estevez would end the film with footage from "The Last Ride", as RFK's funeral train bore his body from LA to DC. I sat in the theater unable to move and unable to see for several minutes because of the tears that had welled up in my eyes and were streaming down my face.

It was like I had relived those days from 40+ years prior and, if anything, the pain was every bit as fresh, disproving the old adage, "time heals all wounds".

Has anyone else experienced this, or is it just me?

1. Saw a musical with Lee Harvey Oswald on lead guitar
at an experimental playhouse (Whoopi Goldberg was a supporter) in Berkeley circa 1985.

The musical was from the POV of LHO (Westside Story meets Warren Commission meets Oliver Stone).

The audience size was very limited and was included in the play in crowd scenes in lights and directions and layout.

I would think your crying for lost possible would be from spending hours a day for years in the DU dungeon being boring.

I was in 4th grade for JFK. They took us all into the cafeteria and we watched on suspended B&W TV. Parents / guardians were called to pick us up and school didn't resume until after the funeral.

The next year there was a traveling JFK exhibit I attended with a friend and his mother. My BSA troop actively campaigned outside the local market for LBJ in 1964 with buttons (still have some)and literature at card tables.

I cry about the USA too and my optimism is not good. Alas.

Really? Your despicable tactics are noted, dude.

Glenn Beck, dude? Vigorous debate doesn't constitute "despicable tactics".

you just conveniently chose from all RW figures.

More importantly, do you honestly believe that someone can't disgree with you on goofy JFK assassination conspiracies, yet deeply revere the memory of JFK and mourn his loss? You realize that EMK stated unequivocally in his memoir that he accepted the WCR, right? Do you want to smear him too?

It's silly and juvenile to pretend that there cannot be principled opposition to goofy JFK conspiracy theories and, in fact, what you are attempting is a form of "psychic foreclosure", in effect, arguing there is no debate over the assassination. You want to debate the facts? Fine. You keep smearing me personally and it's a different matter. Got it?

4. This is by far
the least boring post I have seen from your hand.

And so the response you got so far, seems kind of cruel.

19. Gee You ignored me. I was there for JFK and cried.
And cry now too.

What do you think the weak points or questions unanswered from the 9-11 Commission Report?

Are you such a fool to not realize that things as simple as marketing plans and local political campaigns are conspiracies?

10. Boy, it is hard work trying to redeem yourself in this forum.
First you advertised test results, and now you are publicly asserting emotional responses. What could possibly be next?

21. Hey Dude!
You ignore me.

I lived through what you lived through 40 years ago in SF / Berkeley (at Cal).

I cry about today.

You don't even know what I think about most of the issues in this forum.
