You may have noticed forums and discussion boards disrupted by "trolls" and wondered to yourself if these people were for real or if someone was paying them to do it.

Guess what?

Some of them are getting paid...by the federal government
- and this has been going on for years.

In 2011, a Californian company, Ntrepid, was given a $2.76 million contract under the auspices of US Central Command for "online persona management" operations<18> with the aim of creating 10 "fake online personas to influence net conversations and spread US propaganda"

And some do it for the shear thrill!
