A case of foot in mouth disease - my own
I am truly sorry that I offended so many people yesterday with my opinion of the Flight 93 memorial and the location where it occurred. Rather than try to explain my passions that led to a terrible case of "foot in mouth" disease, or "head up ass" disease, I will merely say,I am very very sorry and I am all too aware that innocent civilians paid an ultimate price for their heroic deed on a terrible day.

3. Self Reliance

"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Out upon your guarded lips! Sew them up with packthread, do. Else if you would be a man speak what you think today in words as hard as cannon balls, and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict everything you said today."

5. And I'm sorry that you're sorry
Well, now, I guess if you're really sorry, A'Kate, then I admire you for saying so. I always feel it takes principle to admit whenever we feel we are wrong. That being said, I must, alas, disagree with your apology and agree with your original statement which made total sense.

I don't believe for a nanosecond that the passengers were responsible for that plane going down. But if they were, then their motive had to have been humanitarian. I feel those who perished that day heroically or otherwise (meaning just being in the wrong place at the wrong time) would much rather see money sent to a charity in their names rather than a silly, costly memorial. Those responsible for the dreadful events of 911 are the select monied and the super well connected who would love nothing better than to support a memorial for the perished--it feeds the myth.

And besides those who would cause the death of thousands of innocents (911) and well over a million post 911 --forgetting if we can the thousands more who have been mentally and physically mutilated--are psychopaths pure and simple. So I know they would most assuredly favour the memorial (to which they would then give lip service) rather than real live people who desperately need help to feed and clothe their families. Psychopaths have no interest in keeping people alive unless they can prove their usefulness to the "prevailing causes."

And to those who religiously show up at this forum on queue to argue vacuously in favour of the OCT, you musn't expect any kind of response by me to any response by you. And that's a good thing, doncha think? (Rhetorical!!)

7. yeah, no, I don't think drive-by character assassination is a good thing
Thanks for asking, even if rhetorically. :eyes:

In honor of your contribution, I'll point out that you probably meant "on cue," not "on queue."

8. Alas, You're Right
I do answer to bad spelling. How duz "showing up in a queue on cue" sound? I'm joshing with you. I did use the wrong word. Occasionally I let the halo slip just a tad to show a smidge of humility! :) But hey, how many spell "queue" correctly? What? No round of applause? You may be sure that I'll not be agreeing with you on matters of content, but I'll be watching your presentation with care.

Thanks for bringing my error to light--I mean that. It's one-upmanship that I can appreciate.

9. "queue" is a totally classy word, well worth misusing :)
You may be sure that I'll not be agreeing with you on matters of content, but I'll be watching your presentation with care.

I may be sure that you won't be agreeing with me on matters of content? I could probably have some fun with that. But it's nice to know that every move I make, every claim I stake, you'll be watching me. :eyes:

At any rate -- it doesn't bother me that AshevilleKate questioned the value of an expensive memorial. I think the tone of her post was out of control, and she was wise to apologize without a lot of parsing.

10. OTOH - I'm beginning to like you in a kind of masochistic way....
You say, "but it's nice to know that every move I make, every claim I stake, you'll be watching me."

Indeed, "for every bomb you make and every heart you break, I'll be watching you. Every war you build, every one you've killed, every grave you've filled, all the blood you've spilled, I'll be watching you...."* Those who support the OCT whether in ignorance or by design contribute heavily to the war effort, an abhorrent activity aka further filling the coffers of the obscenely rich and supporting the psychopathic ruling elite to which true democracy is an anathema.

"...her tone was out of control,...." ??? Tongue in cheek, right? Of course, right! :yourock: OTOH, you're such a cut-up--almost fooled me into believing you were being dead serious. Sheesh, it damn well nearly worked! Fortunately, I was born with that "inevitably astute" gene which saved the day.

And now Nature calls me...............................to the garden of my organically grown delights.

Will you provide 9/11 truth ex cathedra, or do you have actual supporting evidence.

22. I think the rules are intended to protect the discussion, not primarily the posters
I think that protecting posters against reckless factual misstatements is reasonable in itself, but I don't think the primary concern is that people will be reputationally or psychically damaged by them.

The "sticky" OP at the top of the 9/11 forum states, "The 9-11 Forum, like all of DU's forums, is dedicated to a peaceful and respectful discussion." Why is peaceful and respectful discussion desirable? Maybe you don't think it is. I won't argue the point. I don't own DU.

So would it have been considered acceptable to call you a Republican?

Your question would more appropriately be directed to the moderators, who are tasked with enforcing DU rules. Since this is a website for Democrats and other progressives, I imagine that calling another poster a Republican would be construed as a personal attack. I doubt that asserting that the comment was merely "flip" would favorably influence the mods. But I am not and will never be a mod.

HTH.

24. Yes/no
The discussion itself is paramount, but the gist of the rules is to make sure the discussion is about the topic at hand and does not turn to discussing the motives/beliefs of the posters themselves.

"You are" is a classic sign of the latter.

20. Hmmmm
Is that what I said? Really? Can you quote me as having said such a thing? OTOH, how utterly disappointing--and just when I was thinking you might come clean. You're no fool; you know the scoop and it ain't the OCT representing truth. But if the gaggle must act in tandem then in tandem it must act. But oh, I weep. Sigh!

21. bravely parsed!
Alas, the moderators have deleted your post, so I guess there isn't much point in debating how euphemistic my paraphrase was. Not that there would be much point in debating that regardless. (And maybe I can eventually stop wondering how you think a gaggle could act in tandem.)

You're no fool; you know the scoop and it ain't the OCT representing truth.

If that means that you think I actually believe in controlled demolition, NORAD "stand down," or just about anything else that passes for "9/11 truth" around here -- but pretend not to -- then you couldn't be more wrong. I can't even tell yet whether you believe in anything that passes for 9/11 truth around here.

6. Don't be too hard on yourself.
I'm sure even the victims' families disagree on how best to commemmorate their loved ones. There is no perfect answer.

For example, when I saw the WTC memorial pools on TV I thought they were beautiful...but wondered if it's a good idea to have two permanent black holes there. I don't know. I think everyone will have a different answer.

you made the error of questioning their heroic deeds? That's ok, others have made the same mistake.
