Nunn said he might endorse one of the Democrats in the presidential race, but hasn't decided which one. Any endorsement would be personal, not related to the Nuclear Threat Initiative, he said.
The danger of weapons of mass destruction, he said, is not a partisan issue.
"It may be an election season, but political affiliations don't matter with a threat this serious," Nunn said. "This issue needs to be the top security priority for the president, the presidential candidates and the Congress."
