Nunn: Nuclear danger is now from terrorists
From the AJC...
<snip>
"Nunn said politicians -- Republicans and Democrats -- have not given the issue a high priority.

"The president says the right things, but there's nothing that happens," he said. "There's no difference between our programs now in any significant way what they were before Sept. 11 <2001>."

Nunn said he might endorse one of the Democrats in the presidential race, but hasn't decided which one. Any endorsement would be personal, not related to the Nuclear Threat Initiative, he said.

The danger of weapons of mass destruction, he said, is not a partisan issue.
"It may be an election season, but political affiliations don't matter with a threat this serious," Nunn said. "This issue needs to be the top security priority for the president, the presidential candidates and the Congress."

Nunn is a homophobe.

He voted against gays in the military.

3. Besides Nunn wouldn't want it.
Word was in 1997 Clinton offered this position to Nunn when he left the Senate, and he turned it down. He was really interested in being Secretary of State, a position Clinton had rightly assigned to Albright. Republican William Cohen was actually Clinton's backup choice for Secretary of Defense.
