As for the heroic firefighters who risked and in many cases lost their lives trying to save people from the twin towers building. Well due to budgetary cuts many are now being laid off. Some reward for heroes.
Hoggart and other comfortable journalists have some soul searching to do and repositioning regarding their relationships to the powerful. It is sad that people had to wait for Meacher to put together the strands of 9/11 and where were those expensively paid New York based correspondents on the public health and firefighter stories. The job of the journalist demands more than simply parroting official truths, the public deserve and should get better.

1. As Bill Clinton famously said about that vast right-wing conspiracy:

"Isn't it obvious?"

The truth isn't out there because the Gov't doesn't want the public to know about its complicity in the events of 9-11. The historical parallels with other Gov't-sponsored conspiracies are stark; and many of the beneficiaries are obvious, but the public would need a lot of help to be able to connect the dots on their own.

Meanwhile, journalists ("stenographers to power"), pundits, and PR spinners are all doing their part to help keep the public confused, bamboozled, and ignorant of what really happened.

Most of the public still doesn't have a clue about the truth behind Pearl Harbor, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, Popppy's Gulf Oil 1, and all the rest. Only a teeninee percent has even heard of "Operations Northwood", and most who have heard of it don't really see how it is relevant to anything today.
