Confronting the evidence DVD - copy help please...
Says "not copyrighted. Please copy".

There's over 3 hours of data (video & still photos) on this disk. Too much for regular DVD-R.

How to copy:

1. Use double layered disk? How expensive are these?

2. I've downloaded DVD shrink. Is that what you use?

I'm running Windows XP.

Copying DVDs is problematic. Little help in any computer book b/c they assume you're trying to pirate movies or something and they don't want to get sued.

If no one here can help I'll take this over to computer help forum.

thanks in advance.

1. Double-layer DVDs...
...still cost a fortune.

Think VHS, lots of people still have tape players.

Or, if you have a DVD recorder, start the lecture, and record that part. You should be able to fit that on a regular DVD.

Then you can copy that DVD.

I think the DVD is still available for free at Jimmy Walter's Reopen 911;

It's an excellent introductory video.

2. AFAIK it fits!
I think even the original DVD isn't larger than about 4.3 GB. It doesn't matter, how long it is, it is the compression-rate that's important.
I guess the original has about 4.3 GB and fits onto a single-layer DVD. It was produced in a way that makes it easy to copy it!

3. I couldn't make it work.
Name a software program that will make it work.

I couldn't copy it with Nero.

4. Hi,
Edited on Sat Jul-30-05 04:46 PM by Dirk39
I did download it as a torrent.

It really seems to be an Iso-Image of the original DVD, has chapters and everything. I did then copy it using Nero and had no problems whatsoever. The covers and inlays are part of it, too. It includes the extras and pictures. In case the files are really to big, try using the freeware DVD-shrink.

Hope it helps,
Dirk

5. I just tried to copy it using RecordNow! on Windows XP.
What a mess. I copied the files to the desktop and when I tried to put them on a blank DVD, it said the file was too large. I kept deleting files or chapters or whatever one by one. Finally got down to the usable number of GB. Burned to DVD. But there's no continuity, part goes by real fast. Part of it plays on my computer but the video quality is terrible. Won't play on a stand alone DVD player.

torrent - Don't understand this. I tried to download the Azurus client earlier today for something unrelated to this. Couldn't get that to work either. Something about needing Java. It just went round in circles.

I would really like to know in what way this is easy to copy. What I need is step by step. I know people here don't have time to walk people through who don't have a clue. If there was a book I would sure read it.

It's very frustrating when you're trying to work through this and you keep getting goofy messages on screen and you don't even know what they mean. If you want torrent you need Asurus first and if you try to get azurus then you need java first. I have no clue.

6. Dirk must have found a pre-compressed version.
I got roughly the same cop-out when I tried to burn my mirror image.

I'm guessing that there is some audio-codec that compands the audio, and then when you make a mirror, it's like trying to put toothpaste back in a tube. Ain't gonna happen.

Just guessing.
