Here's what Saddam Hussein said about 9/11. From CNN 9/2001
Ran across this on CNN.com.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said Wednesday he will not offer condolences to U.S. President George W. Bush for those killed in terror attacks because the United States is "launching a war on us" and his condolences would be hypocritical.

In a meeting with a representative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Saddam said, "Bush wants us to pay our condolences, but if I were to do that I would not be respecting my people. Bush is the president of a state that is launching a war on us ... in a mean, terroristic manner.

1. Saddam was...

at his post for almost 30 years. Iraq had many embassies ('listening posts') all over the world. Of course he was aware that Iraq would be the next big target. Hell, his intelligence services might even have intercepted 'downing street' style memos way before 2002.

2. I just thought it was interesting that he perceived 9/11 to be
related to an eventual U.S. attack.

4. The US had been bombing Iraq since the first Gulf War and killing
their citizens including 1/2 milloin children with sanctions. Condolances from Saddam under those circumstances would have been hypocritical at best!
