SunCruz Casinos turns over documents in terrorist probe
TAMPA, Fla. - SunCruz Casinos has turned over photographs and other documents to FBI investigators after employees said they recognized some of the men suspected in the terrorist attacks as customers.
Michael Hlavsa, chairman of the gambling cruise company, said Wednesday two or three men linked to the Sept. 11 hijackings may have been customers on a ship that sailed from Madeira Beach on Florida's gulf coast.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A53609-2004Jul15.htmlYou don't have to be much of a conspiracy theorist to see how this could rattle some people inside the FBI. Instead, one only has to believe in what can plainly be seen every day: any information which might impugn the character of the Bush Administration and the Republican Party is sequestered and hidden from public view.
So my guess is that the same thing is happening inside the FBI. As a result, every single day FBI employees are bumping up against an exponentially growing list of information which cannot be accessed because of its political sensitivity. That in turn is hampering the course of ongoing investigations, causing frustration among FBI employees.
I believe but--thanks to that very same secretiveness--cannot prove that some of those investigations are being intentionally hampered.
It occurs to me that such secretiveness, and particularly the news item above, can be used to perpetrate a very open, very honest, and very dirty trick upon the Bush Administration and the Republican Party.
The above is public record, yet there is no mention of it anywhere in the official record as far as I can tell. It appears to have been deliberately left out of the 9/11 Commission Report, for example.
So all one needs to do is find Members of Congress positioned and willing to make a motion in the relevant committees to release all available information on this small facet of the case:
Did the 9/11 terrorists meet on Jack Abramoff's boat on September 5, 2001? Did they ask SunCruz to help them launder their leftover training and ticket money back to al Qaeda, as they began doing that week through other channels? Did they reveal their intent to attack the United States, or was it deduced by SunCruz employees? The Republicans will reflexively kill the motion. A tipped press can then start asking about it, and the White House will start spinning--"this is part of an ongoing investigation," they'll say.
Ah, but then it's too damned late, 'cause the cat's out of the bag and now the press and the public get to bandy about the most dangerous sound bite that could possibly come out: "Did the White House Let September 11 Happen?"
It doesn't matter whether the answer to the question turns out to be true or false, because
either way, the White House will become a victim of its own secrecy. They must respond. They'll either find a legal way to evade the question, or, they'll have to do it the Rove way, by killing the messenger, leaking documents which appear to exonerate the White House, or sidetracking the line of quesitoning.
But any response will fan the flames of conspiracy and mistrust. I seriously doubt that after five years of nondisclosure that the White House and FBI are even capable of releasing what documentation they have. I strongly suspect that continuing investigation will reveal a path of document destruction and cover-up which will further damage them.
And of course, some of the answer to that ultimate question may actually, accidentally, come to light.
As nasty as it is, I think these are fair questions to start asking. Make no mistake: this is an opportunity borne by the overwhelming desire of the White House and the Republican Party to control the public debate through secrecy and cover-up. They could have laughed off such an implication four years ago, but by concealing the very question from the public, they open themselves up to exploitation now.
I hope someone has the balls to do it.
