I can't see any other explanation. All you keep hearing from the right is "don't rely on the government, be self-sufficient."

BushCo wants to privitize the various agencies.

Louisianna is all about OIL.

New Orleans is considered prime real estate.

It was all democratic anyway.

It goes on and on.

I'm really beginning to think that NO ONE could screw up this massively and this thoroughly. And it just so happens to be allowing BushCO to evicerate everything from prevailing wage laws to clean air standards to tax codes. This is one big giant eugenics experiment for a family with a history of racial and ethnic cleansing and experimentation. This Scarborough episode about the ice trucks driving all over the county just to stay busy...which Bush relative owns the ice company? The trucking company?

Jesus...this is too freaking incredible. This has "drown the government in a bathtub" written all over it.

54. Like this...
Just like 9/11 this disaster happened in September of the first year of Bush's presidential term while he was on vacation. Just like 9/11 Bush seemed oblivious when he already should have known what was happening. Just like 9/11 there was wide knowledge of the possibility of such a disaster at every level of government before it happened. Just like 9/11 training exercises has been previously held that simulated the exact event that occured. Just like 9/11 Bush Co. is going to utilizes the disaster to reshape policy in a manner that puts more control in the federal government. Just like 9/11 Halliburton gets automatic contracts to rebuild. Just like 9/11 the agencies supposedly responsible for the failure that allowed the disaster to occur are going to recieve large sums of money in order to improve their performance.

3. google these words: Bush Hegel
And you will find the answer to the LIHOP question. The Bush family has long been enamored of Hegelian theory -- making gains through managed chaos. Sweep it all up, related and not. NOLA is an opportunity to push forward on a dozen fronts for them.

5. It's a follow the money and who benefits type situation
So, if one does follow the money and one does think who benefits, the answer is Bush Inc. Therefore, the answer to your question is yes. They deliberately let it go for as LONG as possible, those 6 days, because they knew that MORE damage would occur and that would benefit them and their cronies.

And it would also give them the chance to remove en masse a HUGE and solid Democratic voting block in one swoop.

They're vampires and neo-Nazi's...they suck the lifeblood out of EVERYTHING that's good. I wish for them to burn for eternity in the deepest pits of Hell.

that people near the levee heard a muffled explosion when it burst. Also there has been a claim that a diver in the rescue effort found charred bits of rubble by the levee, and supposedly sent it to a lab friend, who found 2 high-grade explosives on it. Can't vouch for these claims, but they are fun to repeat. :evilgrin:

7. Me too
I also looked at how many different people in different departments and agencies seemed to have made not just mistakes, but silly, stupid mistakes. Like not sending buses in earlier, any buses, from anywhere, apparently. It looked spun up to be hopelessly confusing, right from the start, in my paranoid little mind.

Last night after his speech, we started saying "why didn't they do this" and "why didn't they do that", and then I realized that if just two people can come up with simple ideas that would have further delegated the work and, even if not perfect, would have certainly saved lives, then they just weren't trying. And too many of them weren't trying. Seriously. If WE could manage ideas, in minutes, but those many many people with their hands in this couldn't manage real plans in a few hours, or a day? WTF! Why the hell not?

Makes no sense. I was already in the LIHOP camp. It's just so sad, what happened, that the outrage of the American public couldn't stop it, and now this awful farce of a clean up, the horrendous way the survivors are being treated, the criminal way the dead aren't being treated or counted, it just goes on and on.

And I wasn't one of those poor souls down there, so I can't complain, but I tell you, it's just been an awful soul-wrenching thing to realize just how bad these people are, this admin and all the official and unofficial supporters of it. It's been a shock, along with the tragedy, and I swear, sometimes I walk around and wonder how anyone keeps their head up. Just exactly what you said, this is too freaking incredible. God ain't it ever.

8. Dig into Joe Allbaughs past and present

New Orleans adds a new chapter to the Bush digest of calculated bigotry. While the wealthy white families were able to beat a hasty retreat out of doomed city, the poor and black were left to sink in the toxic stew unleashed by America's greatest natural disaster.

17. Allbaugh is the one who hired Brownie, his former roomate? And he left
FEMA to become a PAC for Halliburton? Like Iraq, Halliburton was the first to profit in NOLA. Intentional. I hate to think of it. But I hated to think of B* selected by SCOTUS, elected by Diebold, and leading us into war based on lies. I hated this, but all of these facts are true. I think they are as true for NOLA. I have thought this for about 2 weekks now.

Corporations of the Whirlwind
The Reconstruction of New Oraq
By Tom Engelhardt and Nick Turse

<snip>

But let's pull back for a moment and try to reconstruct, however briefly, at least a modest picture of the massively interconnected world of the reconstructors. A good place to start is with George Bush's pal Joseph Allbaugh, a member of his "so-called iron triangle of trusted Texas cohorts." Allbaugh seems to display in his recent biography just about every linkage that makes New Oraq what it is clearly becoming. He ran the Bush presidential campaign of 2000; and subsequently was installed as the director of FEMA which, in congressional testimony, he characterized as "an overstuffed entitlement program," counseling (as Harold Meyerson of the American Prospect pointed out recently) "states and cities to rely instead on ‘faith-based organizations... like the Salvation Army and the Mennonite Disaster Service."

As at the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, so at FEMA in Washington, the larder of administrators would soon be stocked with second and third-rate Bush supporters and cronies. Five of FEMA's top eight managers would, according to Spencer S. Hsu of the Washington Post, arrive with "virtually no experience in handling disasters," three of them "with ties to President Bush's 2000 campaign or to the White House advance operation." A "brain drain" of competent administrators followed as -- à la the Pentagon -- FEMA's focus turned to the war on terror, money was drained from natural-disaster work, and the agency was "privatized" with previously crucial activities outsourced to Bush-friendly corporations.

<snip>

In March 2003, Allbaugh departed FEMA, putting the increasingly starved and down-sized operation in the hands of Michael Brown, an old college buddy whose previous job had been overseeing the International Arabian Horse Association. He then made his faith-based career choice -- no, not to join the Salvation Army or the Mennonite Disaster Service. Instead he opted for what the Bush administration really believed in -- both in Iraq and at home. He became a high-priced consultant/lobbyist, founding in the ensuing years three consulting firms. At Blackwell Fairbanks, LLC, he teamed up with Andrew Lundquist, who led the Dick Cheney task force that produced the administration's National Energy Policy, to "successfully represen clients before the executive and legislative branches of the United States government." Then there was the Allbaugh Company through which he represents Halliburton's KBR as well as military-industrial powerhouse Northrop Grumman. Finally, there was New Bridge Strategies, LLC, where he serves as chairman and director. New Bridge Strategies bills itself as "a unique company that was created specifically with the aim of assisting clients to evaluate and take advantage of business opportunities in the Middle East following the conclusion of the U.S.-led war in Iraq."

<snip>

As President and CEO at Allbaugh Co. and assumedly as a former head of FEMA, not to say as close friend and mentor to FEMA's (now departed) head and as a Presidential pal, he found himself at the front of the Katrina disaster line, apparently pushing hard (although he denied it) for such companies as -- you guessed it -- KBR and the Shaw Group. By September 7 at the latest, unlike the administration, he was down in Louisiana surveying the damage in the Gulf Coast and the wreckage of the agency he once presided over, while directing his clients to the lucrative world of American disaster, now that the lucrative world of Iraqi disaster had been sucked reasonably dry.

evil people. The thought that they could do this for profit above and beyond human lives just astounds me. Has this been posted separately? Maybe it deserves its own thread. When Allbaugh was first appointed FEMA director, his very remarks lead me to believe that this recent F..up in NOLA was intentional. And then taking into account his obvious interest in Halliburton...it makes me ill.

Kicking and recommending for this post and for the original. Thanks. (I usually don't thank people for depressing me and making me ill!)

On Edit: It's ALL conspiracy ALL the time. Too few want to admit or face this. The conspiracy mostly goes by the name 'ORGANIZED GREED' IMHO.

Maybe you will have an answer to this question that I was thinking about posting on. Can we find out all of the stockholders of Halliburton and the other war profiteering companies that might give us some clues as to why these important issues are ignored for the most part by the MSM? I mean Congress members, judges, reporters, etc. Self interest might pay a huge part in not revealing some of this stuff. Conflict of interest though, IMO. Anyway to find out?

10. The sufferings of the people of New Orleans seemed more and
more like calculated cruelty every day.

We can count ourselves lucky that we live in an age of long-distance communication, because the suffering was so immense and overwhelming that it forced the TV reporters out of their carefully instilled Bush worshipping mode.

Imagine if something like this had happened before the age of mass communications. Thousands could have suffered and died, and we wouldn't have known about it except through vague rumors.

they're the cheapest kind of thieves and murdering rapo types, but they never brilliantly pulled off anything...like stalin said about loosing a million men in the war 'men are like weeds, no matter how many are killed, there's more then enough to replace them' (paraphrase) now stalin was just being hard nosed in regards to massive losses but he worried more about lost machinery, which was costly to replace, but even then the soviet union would just have to replace it, or else!.....bushinc is like that, with a slapstick quality to their situation, and a blackmailed media to 'hush' any bad news while trumpeting the good....if stalin was alive, he'd be usa president in a few months (he'd quietly get rid of the bush sissies and turn the mediawhores)
the usa is as stupid a country as any on earth, in history....robbing it of everything is taking candy from a baby, and anyone can do that if in position

34. Conscious vs. unconscious--
Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 12:21 AM by snot
If our gov't gave a damn, there's no way the level of "incompetence" w.r.t. Katrina would occur.

What they take care of shows what they really care about. Folks need to STOP reading * Admin lips, and START reading their results. They care about power, money, rich people, the Iraq oil ministry, etc. They don't give a damn about poor people or even the middle class, civil rights, culture, history, truth, etc.

The majority of white folks don't think the gov's inaction following Katrina reflected racism--most folks no longer CONSCIOUSLY, INTENTIONALLY discriminate, and they're uncomfortable attributing conscious, intentional racism to their gov. But that doesn't mean unconscious racism doesn't occur.

if they cross over invisible lines. "Conspiracy theory" is a very broadly applied term at DU, it seems to me. Overall, the site is a great and important resource, but it has some flaws and blind spots. This is one of them.

The 9/11 Forum is in a walled ghetto so that the neighbors won't be embarrassed by all the kooks like you and me who believe it was an inside job.

It's INTENSELY frustrating, and also a grave disservice to people who would change their minds if they only know some of the suppressed facts.

47. I agree. PLUS it's a power grab for POTUS and Pentagon via a push for
martial law. Read through this entire thread, including the replies, and you'll get the picture. It's one of the primary motivations for the DELIBERATE murder of who knows how many thousands of people. (Along with others, like the ones you name.)

51. Do You Think That They Have A "Think Tank" Group That.......
looks at potential disasters (like NO flooding, San Fran quake, etc) and projects ways that they can take advantage of the situation. This allows them to put a plan down that says something like the following:

If a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane hits NO, we know that it could flood, if it floods the bulk of the city will be destroyed. Here's how we could make the best of this bad situation. And they write out a plan with this ulterior motive in mind. What laws they could rescind or table. What companies they could send in to reap benefits. etc.

This is material for a - James Bond Movie.
