Look at those numbers: 2986 and 2330

Who here thinks that before the U.S. Soldier death toll surpasses the 9/11 death toll, there will be another major terrorist attack on U.S. soil?

I think so. Politically, it will be hard to justify losing MORE Americans in the "War on Terror" than from "Terror" itself.

So, me thinks that before war casualties surpass 9/11 casualties, there will be another major attack on U.S. soil to raise the "death from terror" number.

My speculation will sound totally preposterous to those that don't believe in MIHOP or LIHOP. Well, I'm not really a MIHOPer in the first place, but strategically speaking I'd say a major attack being successfully "thwarted" before the 2006 elections is much more likely - just a little reminder for the citizens.

I think 9/11 is justification enough for most Americans as far as the "War On Terror" is concerned. Although it does appear that more and more people are coming to realize that the Iraq War is not actually part of the "War On Terror" - that is but one of the many reasons for its current lack of support. The Republican party may have spent more political capital on Iraq than they can ever hope to regain.

The biggest problem with an attack occurring while Bush is in office, and the Congress is still controlled by Republicans, is that it would prove that their sales pitch of being the only ones able to protect America from terrorism is nothing more than hot air. An attack could possibly help them on a very short term basis, but I believe it would be a huge liability in 2008.

I can already hear Cheney saying, ""It's absolutely essential that in the mid-term elections we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again." Now if the Democrats were to regain control of both houses of Congress......

politics. That would be the 2nd major terrorist attack on US soil on Bush's watch - that would be a 'pattern' - a death blow to the Repug's claims of promising a 'safer' America.

but I thought the number of dead on 9/11 was 2,973. Of course, I did get that number from the 9/11 Omission Report, for what its worth.

8. Not if they don't have to.

I was pretty sure MIHOP 2 was going to occur in October 2004. I posted quite a few times my belief that if the race for President was close, they would just rely on Diebold to give them the victory, if Kerry was ahead by more than 5%, MIHOP 2 would occur. We all know what really happened.

I don't think MIHOP 2 is dependent on whether the total dead US soldiers surpasses the total dead from 9/11. I think it's more dependent on Iran, whether * can drum up enough support i.e. fear to get the populace and Congress behind his warmongering desires there.
