Question about Max Cleland
As some of you may know, Max Cleland was a Democratic Senator on 9/11 and was said to be meeting with the acting head of the US military, Richard Myers, when the 9/11 attacks happened. He's central to Myers' alibi of what he did that morning. I see Cleland has a new book out:

Does anyone know if his book talks about what he did on 9/11? That might help clear up which of Myers' conflicting accounts on what he was doing that morning was correct.

1. A related question, Paul....
If this Vigilant Warrior/Guardian exercise is underway, why isn't he overseeing it? IIRC, Eberhardt is also missing that morning. Seems very strange that the 2 top military guys are not engaged with the operational aspets of the exercise. Not only that, but with specific instructions not to be disturbed.

I, too, would be very interested in Max's personal recollection of that morning...and Meyer's 'body language'.

2. Don't know, but this quote is interesting:
"I was on the 9/11 Commission, but I resigned after a year because we would never get access to all of those presidential daily briefs. Ten, twenty years later you'll have another commission and go into this thing in depth. But right now, it's all part of this massive cover-up that somehow we are fighting the war on terrorism in Iraq."

3. Here's another version:
"Myers said the events of Sept. 11, 2001, are "burned indelibly" in his mind. President Bush had nominated Myers - then the vice chairman - to replace Army Gen. Henry Shelton as the chairman. Shelton was in the air on his way to NATO meetings in Europe. Myers was discussing his confirmation process with Georgia Senator Max Cleland when the first plane hit the World Trade Center in New York. When the second plane hit and it became obvious that America was under attack, Myers rushed back to the Pentagon."

"On his way back to the building, he received word that the Pentagon had been attacked. He went into the smoke-filled building and manned the National Military Command Center with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld."

The article is dated 28 September 2005 and it's from Defense Link. The journalist appears to have spoken to him about this.

How long does it take to get from the Hill to the Pentagon and by what means of transport would he have travelled?
