How tall is Clark?
I was talking to my mom and she said he's really short? I always had the impression he was fairly tall.

1. He's not very tall
I hear 5'10", but when I saw him, I thought 5'9".

2. I think so

I'd say 5'9" is about right - I had thought he was an inch or two taller, but having seen him in person 5'9" seems to work.

8. Dean is 5'8" and Clark is a little taller, looks 5'9"
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 04:57 PM by WiseMen
Shoud not matter vis-a-vis Dean. If Dean was 6'11" his lack of
military or foreign policy credentials would still be
crippling.

Has he been wearing those "discreet" platforms shoes to the debates?

3. Think of Clinton's height
When he was giving Clark the Presidential Medal of Freedom, I think the top of Clark's head was about at Clinton's eye level.

6. He's not very tall...but his character makes him a larger man....
I watched him on CSPAN this morning. VERY intelligent individual.
Another thing that caught my attention: he might have been in the
military yet he had the demeanor of a "commoner"...he wasn't high
on himself, didn't think himself higher than any other in the room.
This man has principles and morals. He's a leader.

I'm starting to lean towards Clark...

13. You're right, he is a very down to earth guy
He still is the kid from Little Rock, but he's grown up to be a man of the world. It's a very attractive combination, I think.

By the way, for anyone interested:

this is repeated at 6:30 PM EST, C-Span 1

11. What role do you think height plays in a presidential election?
I know we here at DU hate to even speak in such vulgar electoral terms, but what is the reality?

My mom, a good democrat, always has said that one reason Dukakis lost was that he looked so short next to Bush I. She lives in a red state and isn't afraid to think in such terms.

Clinton was tall, and Gore as well, right?

I go more for the brainy thing. Generally, tall does seem to go over better with the public, I suppose. But I think walking tall probably means more.

history shows the taller man is the one who always wins. :-( I hope that isn't true because Clark is my man and if chimp is taller. :scared: Hopefully if true in the past it will be like the 20 year curse and not pan out, of course the 20 year thing is about the president who is ELECTED and since chimp wasn't, who knows(????)

17. Clark's has many negatives, such as................
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 07:00 PM by shivaji
Zero (whole) years spent as a democrat,
Zero dem nominee's who bypassed Iowa caucusses,
Zero no. of jobs held outside of military,
Zero years of political experience,
Zero no. of generals who have endorsed him.

He was disliked by his fellow generals because of his towering ego. He has spent a life time in the military where you receive or give orders and there is no give and take. He can't work well with congress. He will look dimunitive when shown together with *, which would be unavoidable during presidential debates. He has been all over the map in his positions on Iraq war. I am sure Karl Rove is salivating at prospect of making anti-Clark commercials. I am turned off on him when he said the other day "Let the computer jobs be outsourced to India, we will do something else". Hell, I spent a lifetime in computer software and this casual dismissal by Clark about computer related jobs shows me he does not know the real world. A lifetime in military probably does that.

Dean is my first choice, Edwards second. Dean will energize the base like no one else. Clark can't win if half the blacks stay home.

26. I disagree
I read from some place official (but I don't remember where)that he was 5'10". I remember being surprised as I thought he was shorter but he was the same height as my son. I have a picture of him standing next to Clinton and he was defifitely not 5'6"
I have also heard many times that he had a great handshake even by the end of the evening! Maybe he was really tired and remember...he had a piece of his thumb muscle blown off and he rehibilitated himself so that he could have a good handshake.

35. Wrong and wrong again.
My husband is 5'11' and Wes was just at about 1" shorter. My husband also reported that Wes's handshake was bordering on crunchy. Hubby is a maintenance supervisor so this is no small or soft observation.

Perhaps he found your hands to be soft and was afraid of hurting you?

25. Same height as junior
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 07:24 PM by Donna Zen
Gore is taller, and of course while he did win, we still have junior in the WH.

Clark and junior are about the same height; however, Clark's 5% body fat would indicate he could kick the squatter's ass at will.

I would pay the big bucks to see that. LARGE! I am not by nature a violent person, but enough is enough is enough to know.

28. That's ridiculous about the black vote not supporting Clark
Of course, we're talking about individuals, that's the first problem with your post, but to continue...

It's ridiculous to say that half the black vote won't turn out for Clark and to say that more will turn out for Dean. Since when? Dean has been having trouble with gaining nonwhite supporters all along. Remember the Al Gore/Dean endorsement in Harlem with all the "African Americans for Dean" signs held up by white folks?

Then remember the Charlie Rangel/Clark endorsement in the same place except there were actual African American folks in the audience and on the stage?

34. maybe we should skip all this and give the tallest person in America
a four year term. Then move on to the next and so on.

Oh, and when you are talking about a man who took 4 bullets that may have caused others to retreat to excuses of infirmity for life, a man who served his country for 34 years, a man who led hundreds of thousands of troops on a mission to stem genocide not because it was popular or profitable to the brass but because it was the right thing to do, a man knighted and/or decorated dozens of times by multiple nations, a man who went toe to toe with some of the ugliest examples of humanity this age has produced and prevailed.......... "shrimp" just don't fit.

I win the prize for run on sentance of the day.
