Some here are buying into the desperate rightwing spin!
The Mary Cheney canard and now this outlier Zogby poll where it turns out KKK Rove said days before to "watch" for. You are picking up on the exact talking points the corporate whore media and white house spin team are using out of a last ditch effort of desperation. Do all of us a favor and take a deep breath and bite your tongue. Does anyone want to say the word "sheep"? I will and I see it here this morning!

2. Recognizing when to change the subject is smart activism, not being a
sheep.

The Mary Cheney remark was a gift to Bush.

We're still going to win--because we are smart and recognize that American voters want to hear about jobs, health care, and Iraq.

Time to push the discussion back to what matters.

4. NO, YOU are a gift to shrub
Keep repeating this desperation line! They were crushed in the debates. They lost over a 10point lead . They had nothing left except this canard and you are running with it! Those are the facts! Take a step back and look at the big picture!

12. Gift to Bush?
I'm feeling too polite to give you an appropriately nasty response, so I'll just restate my position:

Kerry DID crush Bush at the debate. Kerry nailed Bush on substance in each question.

BUT, people are not talking about that. They are talking about this piece of sensationalist nonsense.

Getting people to talk about the Cheney family instead of the debate itself is a win for the Repubs.

Time to set things right and change the subject back to Kerry whooping Bush's ass.

by talking about other issues and not letting this get spun out of control.

25. and you would start a subject heading
That stands way out saying "The Republicans have won the post-debate spin battle"? The debates just ended, this sad attempt of distraction by Rove is only 1 day old and you say they won the spin. That was not only careless it was just plain stupid! Why even have this place get distracted with such nonsense.

Kerry has been on a 2 week climb so you decided to start a topic that just so happens to fall in line with Rove's talking points. Talk about a momentum buster.:wtf:

28. The fact is that Kerry is getting Gored.
Time to stop the bleeding by expressing "deep regret."

Idiotic statements like that issued by Mary Beth Cahill will not help.

about mentioning one of them (who, btw, has been out and an activist in gay/lesbian issues for over a decade). JFK cannot give the response you want him to give, because it insults lesbians and gays.

20. You aren't paying attention to what I have been saying.
There was nothing morally or ethically or intellectually wrong with what Kerry said. There is absolutely no shame in mentioning someone's homosexuality--it's just like mentioning someone's marriage.

However, tactically it was a mistake to bring it up.

It's time to change the subject. The only question is the best way to change it.

What I strongly oppose are the people who want to expend a lot of effort defending Kerry on principle here.

That plays into Rove's hands. Instead, we should post about Osama bin Forgotten and emailing it. That's what I'm doing.

22. The spin is now "mean old John Kerry will do anything to win."
They're trying to smear Kerry while avoiding mentioning the "g," "l," and "h" words.

Let's talk about that job myths remark instead.

9. No they're not. And it doesn't help us to repeat juvenile insults.
1) Most are overworked and under-informed.

2) When we call them stupid, we look like arrogant snobs primed to be Gored.

3) Sun Tsu said never underestimate the enemy.

We want to embrace the voters, not push them away. WE'RE supposed to be the compassionate ones, remember?

7. Get John in a press conference
Seriously, I'm hoping Kerry calls a press conference. All this hubbub deserves a press conference. Get everyone tune in to see what he has to say and then SMASH! Talk about the real issues at stake in this election. Due to the Mary Cheney dustup, it should get a lot of play and if he does it right, he should be able to remind the American people that they damn well better base their vote on the issues and not on the press feeding frenzy over one quote that mentioned the vice president's gay daughter.

Hello, Iraq? Jobs? Economy? Healthcare?

WE'll see, but that's my fantasy. Big press conference and taking the press to task.

8. A great way to get your mind off things is by...
...going out to visit your neighbors with a fistful of Kerry campaign materials. Talk about jobs, healthcare, war and peace, etc. It'll wipe corporate media whoring and pointless suggestions that nobody in the campaign will ever see right out of your mind.

Thanks for this post AmerDem.

10. Well, when I first show up
here this morning and read 3 posts spouting the white house bullshit as if it were fact I kind of want to let loose considering the great last couple of weeks we had. Repeating this rightwing bullshit does absolutely nothing for us. This only helps shrub. They monitor this site as a way to judge their tactics and when they see their line being used they know it's having an effect.

11. You're absolutely right
The only reason the Repukes are harping on the Mary Cheney thing is because THEY HAVE NOTHING ELSE!!!!!!

And everyone on this board is hashing it over like it means something - "should he have said it?" "should he apologize?" "does it mean the Cheney's are ashamed of their daughter?"

All it means is that they're desperately trying to turn the attention away from all the issues they have no answers for, from the fact that there was AN ATTACK INSIDE THE IRAQI GREEN ZONE, for crying out loud!

I agree - by legitimizing this thing, we're only helping their bullshit tactics. :wtf:

13. exactly
It's the same time tested ploy they use over and over again. "Let's divert attention away from our miserable failure on the debates and have people preoccupied with nonsense". Can you imagine if everyone just thumps shrub over the head with his failing in the debates up until the election. He would lose in a landslide.

Just as long as we don't get off topic and slam him repeatedly for his miserable failures at the debates. The man lost a 10 point lead going in and now Kerry has the Big Mo.
