The "My Pet Goat" ad we've all been waiting for, right here ! A MUST SEE!
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 10:24 AM by mzmolly
Watch it and please contribute a bit if you like it.

Here is a preview of the final ad we intend to get up on the air next week:

http://www.truthandhope.org/pet_goat.mov

We need your help though. First, I have posted a diary at Kos (almost identical to this email) at http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/10/15/43251/812. If you would visit and recommend the diary that would be a huge help in spreading the word. Many have been crying for this ad to be created for a long time now, we are doing it & people need to know.

There will be two versions of the finished product. We are working straight through the weekend to get this finished, after that we need it on the air all the way through the election! The Swifties are putting out two new attack ads. This spot will change the national conversation.

The goal for the initial buy is $50,000 - similar to the Swifties start. Once it is on the air, we expect the media to carry the story, as this information has not reached many swing voters who have no idea how their President acted at the moment of crisis. We need your help to make the buy a reality. If you can help please contribute securely here:

https://www9.cruzio.com/w9a011/tnh/contribute/contrib1.php?project=3

We also have new Bush: In his own Words spots created:

http://www.truthandhope.org/bad_movie.mov

http://www.truthandhope.org/no_mistakes.mov

I would like your feedback on these also, as we consider mixing them into the rotation with the Pet Goat/9-11 ad.

We need your help, this is the ad everyone is waiting for. Please spread the word. I wanted to share the in progress version both for your input, but also to start the fundraising now, so we can get up on the air next week without delay.

There are no more debates, so now it is up to us to frame the message & the national conversation of these last few days before it's too late!

Thank you for all that you do,
Eugene Hedlund

1. Might I suggest...
a non-.mov version? Many can't view the .mov versions.

2. I haven't control over that sorry. The movie shows planes hitting the WTC
while Bush reads My Pet Goat. Very powerful.

Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 10:31 AM by Nightjock
That is powerful stuff. But have you considered that people who lost someone on September 11th might be offended?
And bush was slammed for using bodies in his early ads. Isn't this almost as bad?

Someone had to ask.

6. Good question, but the media airs footage all the time.

I think they're more offended that Bush sat on his ass, and I think some will feel relief that the story is finally being told. I know I would. Imagine living with this President for years, who failed to protect your loved one on 911. This same fool is said to be tough on terra' and the media doesn't challenge him?

I'd welcome such an ad.

But, thanks for your question. :hi:

30. No. This is what Bush did.
I know that's what some folks might say, but you know?

I think that simply brings the point home better.

11. I cross posted this in the Randi Rhodes forum for you
She's said many times that she wanted a commercial showing a split screen of Bush and the WTC.

I think the crickets are because we are all so stunned. That's more powerful than a thousand SwiftLiars TV spots!

Bravo! The bravery they have to make this is stunning... I'm floored.

16. Thanks, that's how I felt. Bush envokes 911 and made his convention
a tribute to his greatest failure. Yet we all stand around and watch, doing nothing.

This ad is powerful IMHO.

5. It's pretty powerful.
I have a hard time watching anything that shows the attacks on September 11 but there are those who need to be reminded what Bush did (and didn't do) that day.

12. I saw 9-11
If you recall, Michael did not show the towers blazing or falling. He did not show people jumping to certain death. He showed the reactions of the witnesses on the street. The pain and disbelief that people felt. I thought it was the most powerful scene in the movie.

Any ad showing the towers themselves, the wreckage, the debris being carried out of ground zero--that will backfire. But you can invoke 9-11 powerfully without stepping over the line. That's what they should do.

And I haven't seen the ad because I'm at work (working! really!) and they don't let us install quicktime or other multimedia programs. I'm stuck with Microsoft.

15. It isn't Kerry who's running the ad, it's a grass roots effort so I don't
know who it would backfire on?

But I encourage all suggestions be sent to:

9. a couple of comments..
Edited on Fri Oct-15-04 10:40 AM by irancontra
how about using helvetica for the text.. it's a lot clearer at small point sizes.. & maybe instead of chaos for the sound, just let the classroom sounds keep running.. otherwise very good editing..

I'm sick & tired of the way we can use 9/11 to bludgeon people into accepting invasion, torture, patriot act, lies, & deception, but the second somebody tries to show 9/11 within the context of what it really was, A TRAGIC EVENT MADE WORSE BY INCOMPETENCE & CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE, people start getting edgy.

I support your effort.

10. It's very powerful and angers me beyond comprehension, but
as stated, smirk was attacked for using 9/11 footage in his ads. I dont think this would go over. Is there any way to tone down the right side BUT get the same message across??

Kerry condemn the ad and he might not have a choice.

That smirking son of a bitch might have been able to stop 9-11 had he not been preoccupied with vacations and Iraq and read his Osama PDB, but I think this might do more harm than good.

24. I understand what you're saying
But Junior was attacked (and rightly so) for using 9/11 for his own purposes because he did NOTHING that day and was capitalizing on the bravery of others. This ad shows just what he had really done that day. Nothing. I'm appalled by it as much as I am because it is so unbelievable, yet so true. I don't have a problem with 9/11 being included in a commercial if it tells the truth, as this one does.

Just my opinion, though. I do see your point, too. It's a fine line, isn't it?

And I don't have any problems with the way it is presented. It's effective. It's true. That's what makes it so damning.

For what it's worth, I say take this and run with it. It's too powerful not to use.

27. I'd like to see an ad that references the Aug. 6 PDB and what shrub..
did about it, which was stay on vacation.

As for this "Pet Goat" ad, I think the key is to show that the shrub did nothing despite knowing we were under attack.

I don't think the video of the towers being blasted is necessary. Since there is so much potential for a backfire, I'd eliminate the towers footage and replace it with information that somehow shows:

1. we were under attack and Bush knew it, yet he did nothing, not just for those seven minutes, but even longer as he then went to a photo op for another half hour or so.

2. that the Aug, 6 PDB was basically ignored and Bush did nothing except stay on vacation.

37. All three ads are great.
After over three years of hearing '9/11 changed everything', I think it's perfectly alright to show the towers in the first ad. Part of the point is that the footage shows only one tower struck; shrub could have prevented the second strike. The only effective way to do that is to show it...the whole 'worth a thousand words' thing.

38. These are powerful ads!
I think 2 of them are perfect and hope they can get a lot of air time.

Personally, as hard as it is to watch a replay of that day, I would love for every person in this country to watch it in real time. I have mixed feelings - personally, I say leave it as is and play it. *'s entire campaign has been 9/11 and fear, let the people see how scared the brave boy was that morning sitting in a room full of children who could have been harmed.

It doesn't matter what our side does, there will be a backlash.

40. A stronger timeline
It will make a stronger impact of the timeline is emphasized. Add a clock and make the time compressing edits clearly defined. Everything else is great just add more clarity to the timeline. We know this clip comprises 9+ minutes - show the clock and run the quotes, remember this should translate for the uninformed.
