National Arab American Leaders Endorse Kerry/Edwards
I hope this makes a difference.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Washington, October 19, 2004 -- In a conference call yesterday with senior members of the Kerry campaign, Arab American leaders from throughout the country endorsed the Kerry/Edwards ticket. Campaign Chairwoman Governor Jeanne Shaheen thanked leaders for their support and reminded callers of each vote's importance in battleground states. "I want to reiterate what you already know and that is that Arab Americans have the potential to make a difference in this election. Those states where you have the potential to make a difference could be the difference between winning and losing this election." The Arab American vote represents slightly more than 5% of the overall vote in Michigan, 2% in Florida, just under 2% in Ohio, and more than 1.5% of all Pennsylvania voters. 3. Yessss! I was pretty disgusted that Arab Americans fell for
Chimp's line in the 2000 election. I am sorry it took 4 years of hell and the wrong Middle Eastern policy for them to change their mind back.
5. It was disgust with current policys (then current)
Now its the typical 4 year syndrome for Arabs and Muslims, disgust at current conditions which constantly get worse with each passing administration.(conditions regarding civil rights , freedoms , foreign policy, etc. not economic as Arab Americans are wealthy typicaly)Hopeful "trust" (more like a crapshot) in the new guy Bush was no different from any other 4 year cycle.
4 years from now it will be the same thing.
Not that ethnicity should matter in this regard (we should ALL be disgusted)but soon Arab Americans that actualy give a crap (2/3s of Arab Americans dont even consider themself "Arab" and dont respond to census data , mostly the heavy wave of early Syrian/Lebanese, whom our Supreme Court decided were white enough to be allowed to be citizens when Turks and Arabs werent allowed into our country based on race reasons, many right wing racists objected and constantly challenged whether Syrians and Lebannese were "white enough" through endless appeals , they rarely respond to demographers nor do they consider themselves "arab")need to seriously consider looking at 3rd party canidates as should many disaffected Americans.
I think 2008-2012 will have to be a real soul searching time for progressives and especially disenfranchised groups.
