MICHAEL MOORE ANNOUNCES "FAHRENHEIT FOR FREE" OCTOBER 26
From Michael Moore's Website:

http://www.michaelmoore.com/books-films/fahrenheit911/free/index.php

*******

While on his 60 city "Slacker Uprising Tour," Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore is joining forces with video store operators in an effort to get as many Americans as possible to see the film before the election. Video stores across the country will be waiving the usual rental fee for "Fahrenheit 9/11," beginning on October 26. A recent Harris poll showed that 44 percent of Republicans who have seen the film gave it a positive rating. "It isn't possible to view this film and come out saying you are voting George W. Bush," stated Moore.

Moore is currently on a 60-city tour to the 20 battleground states to rally non-voters and slackers, America's majority, to give voting a try, just this once. He's offering clean underwear and Ramen noodles to slackers, which has Republicans in his home state of Michigan calling for his arrest.

Moore is appearing on college campuses, arenas, stadiums and field houses. Nearly all venues hold between 5,000 and 15,000 people, with students -- historically the largest block of non-voters in presidential elections -- admitted for free at most events.

45. That's the republicans favorite word
The republicans have just about used the word "traitor" to death. They just love this word. In their very simple minded way of thinking if you can call what republicans do as thinking, everything that is ever done or said that is out of the main stream of Bush and company makes you a traitor.

That would be great if they would. There's a Blockbuster in every major town in this country, just about. Unfortunately, a bunch of bastards run the company. I used to work there for a few months. The store is open every day of the year, even Christmas and Thanksgiving when almost everything else is closed. They pay their employees shitty wages and there is no addition pay for working on holidays.

I worked for a company like that - Food Lion.

In your face management - work like a dog or get kicked like a dog. (manner of speaking).

I was shocked when I checked out a local Blockbuster and they had a very large section of the wall dedicated to (a rented-out) f911.

Kudos to those involved.

I am a part-timer for Food Lion now (cashier) and that's pretty much been my experience, although they get soft real quick for anyone who tells them in nicer terms what they can shove and where they can shove it.

I doubt it would even be an issue if it was a union store. Coincidence? I don't think so.

15. "It isn't possible to view this film and come out saying you are voting.."
Unfortunately, that isn't true: My dad is still going to vote for the bastard, mostly because he can't stand Kerry.

According to my dad, Moore discredits himself with his antics early in the film - most notably, the "Maybe he's thinking..." type suggestions, and he thought the Bush/Sauds issue was reaching too hard for something non conclusive. If it weren't for these parts, my dad might've taken it seriously.

He did say one thing, though: "There's something seriously wrong with our troops today. I wasn't trained like this (bagging heads, Abu Graib(sp), etc.), none of us were; we were trained to fight against what we're now doing over there."

I know, there is major cognitive dissonance(?) going on here. Here in the south, they know Bush is wrong on "most things" but they still cannot vote for Kerry. Their logic is that we haven't been attacked again by anyone on Bush's watch, and "Kerry would be a disaster," so Bush deserves a second term by default.

The sad thing is, the folks wanted to vote for Dean (before the primaries) after hearing about his moderate policies as Governor.

22. Michael Moore doesn't come across that well in many parts of the south
I'm from Ohio and I understand MM's sarcastic, ironic sense of humor. It's a form of affection in Great Lakes states to talk with people this way. It horrifies people in the south. I've lived in the south for 25 years. I can recognize a fellow Great Laker the minute they open their mouths. We just can't help it that we talk that way!

It sounds like parts of the movie had an impact on your father, though. Maybe he'll surprise himself and get over his media-driven "fear" of Kerry between now and election day. There's always hope!

36. "Horrifies" is right on the money
My sister was terrified listening to Moore talk (and for Bowling), said he was a "freak."

Moore's work and style enlivens and encourages the left but scares the hell out of (or at least turns off) southern moderates not firmly behind Bush by default.

In the south, word of mouth determines everything - what to watch, who to listen to, who to vote for, etc. Logic and reasoning are not taught in schools, and people defer to belief about EVERYTHING - not just religious matters. They believe Bush will do a better job in the next four years than Kerry will, and that belief is not based on any facts, reasons, or logical analysis of events and conditions. It is based on image, perception, which in the political realm is all MYTH.

This is why the SVFT stuff (and Fox) has turned Kerry into a demon and potential disaster in the eyes of southern moderates and independents (he's already that by default for solid southern conservatives, of course).

78. How old are you?
If you and your friends are around my age (27) or younger, all bets are off and what I've been talking about doesn't hold up predictably.

This mostly applies to the 30+ population, but predominantly the 40+ white poor/middle class moderate and conservative voters in the La/Ms region (excluding New Orleans).

The young around here don't stay long enough to vote here (no future or education, only min-wage jobs), or otherwise stays but won't put down the bong long enough to find out what's really going on and vote.

I have a friend of 29 who loved Moore's F/9-11. He came from an intensely racist and poor NRA-Repub type home, yet has an open mind. He's the exception where I'm from, not the norm; most whites of his background and age around here vote as their parents do, and follow their parents feelings about things such as F/9-11/Moore, etc.

My friend mentioned F/9-11 to his dad, and was kicked out of the house (he has dinner there on Thursdays).

47. Think of how this might "swing" WI, IA, MN, and OH!!
It might not play well in the south, but here in WI, people like to make up their own minds about things. If they can see the movie for free, they'd consider it.

That's why I donated a copy of F-9/11 to our library.

in Fahrenheit 9/11 at his website: http://www.michaelmoore.com/warroom/f911notes/

Maybe you already know about that though.. well, in case you don't.. you can show your dad about these notes & facts. Few pals of mine (freepers) said same thing as your dad did until they took a look at Moore's notes at his website and changed their minds about Bush and vote for Kerry (they already made their votes yesterday).

39. Helpful, if they only read...
But they don't. There's only the TV media. And clarifications after-the-fact do not get disseminated. Southern 'folks' make their minds up very quickly and there's not much room for it to change. My folks, like most other mostly-apolitical (aside from God, Guns, Gays, and Blacks) 'true conservatives' are intellectually lazy; they hear something and it gets set in stone, and do not trust information which follows that challenges their made-up minds.

This is why Fox and CNN (and almost all other TV news) viewers are most misinformed on everything - it's the lie of ommission during and after misreporting. Fox even takes advantage of this, misreporting then mumbling-in-passing the correction if there's even one made.

When Bush is tossed, THE most important thing that HAS to be done if this country is going to remain intact, is the mandating and enforcement of fairness doctrine, the breakup of media conglomerates and concentrated ownership, and punishment of media which knowingly or repeatedly misreports issues and uses techniques of propaganda. The crisis of media is no less dangerous than our constitutional crisis and eroding of civil liberties.

33. I would say he is wrong to say that we haven't been attacked since gw*
First, we were attacked on 9/11
Second, every time a soldier is killed or injured in Iraq/Afghanistan we are attacked
Third, the respect of other nations and integrity of this country has been attacked.
Fourth, the economy has been attacked as a result of fighting an unjust war and by gw*s mismanagement
Fifth, the country has been attacked as a result of gw*s divisiveness
Sixth, under gw* our civil liberties has been attacked both from the appointment of Ashcroft as Attorney General and passing the Patriot Act.

35. Yeah, but they never hear it this way
The deep south is in a bubble of cultural and political isolation and ignorance, and the media is collusive in keeping them this way.

They know of nothing except the myths they've been sold. Anything that doesn't align with the myths, isn't part of their worldview.

The soldier's deaths aren't real to them: they don't see the caskets, or the destroyed familes, and haven't lost a son for no just reason.

The loss of respect or integrity isn't real to them, or is dismissed: "'they' have ulterior motives" or "'they're' just jealous of the US"

The economic crisis isn't real to them: they have a job and got theirs and aren't starving or filing bankruptcy.

The divisiveness isn't real to them: 'they' are just pissed-off liberals, and the terrorists hate us for our freedoms.

Constitutional crisis and loss of civil liberties isn't real to them: they can still vote, and can go shop at Walmart 24-7.

The problems we face with half the population being this far gone down the road of delusion and manipulation is coming to a critical mass.

52. Talk about stereotypes and
la-la land. You have completely missed what is really happening.

I am in Florida and we, the endangered native population, is sweating this election because of the influx of wealthy Republicans who are buying up the land and building their million dollar mansions on the beach. Then they split their vote, one member votes from wherever they come from, and the other member registers here.

We have moved from a Democratic county to a Republican county in less than 10 years. And now, native Floridians have no voice in government. We know the compassionate conservatism of the carpetbagging Republicans. We know the loss of civil liberties. You know them when you are being driven off your family's land to make room for some rich Northern Republican.

And this is symptomatic of what is happening in the old south. Look at Atlanta, Miami, Birmingham, Gulf Port, all over the south.

75. You seemed to miss that I wasn't talking about Democratic counties/voters
So please do not take offense that I'm 'blanketing' native population to include Democratic counties and voters throughout the south.

I have been talking about poor-to-lower-middle class white moderates/independants and old-school (non-neocon, but fiscal) conservatives and why they vote the way they do. Nixon and the Southern Strategy, now on steroids, marginalizes to practical non-existence, all other issues aside from God Guns Gays and Blacks - and now the War on Terror which "we must win, and Kerry would lose it" disastrously.

It may sound stereotypical to you, but I know very well the people I'm surrounded by and their mentality is very real and very dangerous. I know that mentality in the first-person, I was raised with it..

I've never lived in FL so I'm not informed to the tactics being used there; I'm from La. Tactics are different as the state changes. I imagine Florida has had this problem since Disney built up central FL and all the middle-class and wealthy retirees, who vote Republican, moved in. That's still not enough to control the state, so now you see more recently and deliberately what you just described.

Money rules all in our society; they have more of it, so I'm at a loss of how to counter what's happening. Logic and reasoning sure as hell don't work with the voters I'm talking specifically of.

57. Maybe we haven't been attacked because 9/11 did what it was
meant to.

We were repeatedly attacked, and the attacks were foiled, under Clinton's watch (I can't count the 1st WTC bombing, when he'd been there only a month). The terrorists were foiled, the terrorists were caught and tried, the terrorists were ineffective, until 9/11.

9/11 gave them the victory they wanted. It gave them the war they wanted. They are far more noticed, and far more powerful now then they were on 9/10. They were trying to set up a confrontation between east and west, xtian and muslim. They got it.

On Bush's watch.

They haven't needed to attack us again.

Unless something is repeated endlessly a la Fox News.

As far as their memory is concerned, those events never happened.

49. Can you get your hands on some of these films?
"Honor Betrayed"
"Hijacking Catastrophe"
"Going Upriver"

If you can, let your Dad see them. I bet your Dad changes his vote.

My computer is acting up so I can't do searches at the moment. Some, if not all of these films can be downloaded online.

'Honor Betrayed' and 'Hijacking Catastrophe' can both be seen on LINK TV, which is on Dish Satellite and DIRECTV.

76. Hijacking Catastrophe
I sent off for it but he hasn't watched it yet. Trying to get my mother to watch it will be like trying to talk her into a root canal without anesthetics - willfully ignorant.

My dad, I just learned, won't be around Nov 2 to vote because he's had to go to FL to find a job (we're from La.).

71. Your dad is voting for Bush cuz he can't stand Kerry?
What in the world? I'm sorry, but I just can't understand someone putting the entire future of our country in jeopardy by voting for Bush just because he can't stand Kerry. Tell him not to vote for president if he can't stand Kerry ... because a vote for Bush is a vote for the end of America as we know it.

80. "putting the entire future of our country in jeopardy "
That is the disconnect; they consistently vote against their interests. They are uninformed and misinformed as to what their best interests really are, because they are not given enough information (and the education to analyze it) to determine what their best interests really are - instead, they vote on myths. The media is a major ally in perpetrating the myths. Even while they don't trust the media, they watch it and cannot watch it without being affected by it.

They cannot see 5 minutes in front of them, only the feelings amplified by prejudice and ignorance. God, Guns, Gays, and Blacks (and now Terrorism) - there are no other issues, even as they struggle to pay the mortgage and look two states over to find work.

For my mom, the fact that she can't stand the way Kerry talks and looks (as well as all the SVFT stuff) is reason enough to vote for Bush on Nov 2, even as she can no longer afford her health insurance now that she's retiring. The media has convinced her that Kerry, rather, would be "the end of America as we know it"..

This is not isolated; the southern problem is spreading upwards and outwards.

40. Absolutely - I think it's a great idea
The independent video rental places can have a hard time competing with the chains, but this is one way that they can get people to come to their store and hopefully people will pick up a few more rentals while they're there.

31. A guy I work with in the Steel Mill was undecided on who
to vote for. In my opinion I think he leaned towards Bush even though he wouldn't admit it,until he watched F-911 last night with his wife. All he talked about today was if everyone would see this documentary their is no way they could vote for Bush. He especially went on about the Saudi influence in our govt.,how they lent Bush money in his business ventures and the way Bush sat in that classroom after being notified that planes were crashing into buildings. For once I wasn't the one spouting off about Bush I just sat back pointing out other facts and letting him take it from there. All I had to do was just stir the pot every so often, smile and go on my merry way.

A local video store owner is offering free 1-day rentals of F-9/11 every day. He also did this with Columbine when it came out, just because he thought everyone should see it.
