The next Arkansas governor's race is in 2006, and the current governor is a Republican. Democrats would very much like to win back Bill Clinton's former office.

Question: IF Wesley Clark is not named as the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004, will he run for the Arkansas governorship in 2006?

Arkansas Democrats previoulsy tried to recruit Clark as a candidate for Gov there. He thought about it and declined because his focus has always been National.

5. I definitely see a role for Clark in the Dean administration

I'm on record as a supporter of Dean/Clark as THE ticket to beat the Bush machine. However, reports coming from the Clark camp suggest he wouldn't accept the #2 spot. That being the case, an appointment as Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, or Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are all possibilities. Naturally, Clark could refuse any or all of them, but if he's committed to better leadership in Washington D.C., I don't see him turning down an opportunity to be part of it, even if Democratic primary voters didn't think he was ready for the top job.

He has worked his entire life protecting it from "commies."
And since he has already said its President or nothing, it follows he will return to his true loyalty; greed.

9. If capitalism and greed

were his true love, he would have left the military a long time ago and used his credentials to make huge amounts of money. His committment to the military was not about protecting capitalism from the "commies", otherwise he would have had no reason to stay in it after the Soviet empire collapsed. I think he has amply demonstrated that his true loyalty is to this country.

By the way, do you think that this sort of post serves to make your candidate more attractive, or do you just enjoy pissing people off for the fun of it?

7. He's won't be VP

at least not on a Dean ticket..unlesss there is miraculous unity between the two wings of the party - the center-right Clinton faction who appear to be supporting Clark and the center-left group who got Gore elected and who could rally in far greater numbers behind Dean.

He'll become involved in Democratic politics on a national rather than a local level. If he's not the nominee, but a Dem wins the white house, I hope he will have some important cabinet position.
I think he would make an excellent Secretary of State.

11. Clark will take his wife's advice

They want to settle down in Little Rock if he doesn't win the presidency. I believe he will be a popular speaker and will make enough money through speaking engagements. I wouldn't rule out another book either.

I haven't read his book yet.

I've read his fist and about half of his second.

He's been very careful I think not to talk much about his books for a couple of reasons.

1. If he did, people would say "look ~ He's not a serious candidate, he's just out there to sell his books" I actually did here that both here and a couple of other places way back in the Draft Clark movement.

2. His books are very interesting, especially to those who have not been in the military because they give a good deal of insight into how all that works...... BUT........ Much of what he wants to speak about in this candidacy cannot be found in those books. The second one, Winning Modern Wars, is more relevant to the National security issues and issues of doctrine, but campaigns dont work on the 600 page explination, they work in soundbytes.

15. Gert has already said if he doesn't get the nomination

They go back home and become Wes and Gert Clark, private citizens.

I think in all the world there is only one living person that shakes Wes up, and her name is Gert. They really do look amazing together. If he doesn't get the nom he'll respect her wishes and they will head home. Unless............ they decide together to do differently. But that's highly unlikely imo.

Every time I see him speak I become more and more convinced that I have seen and shared just a little slice of time with the first ELECTED President of the United States since Clinton.
