1. Yes. He was Lamar Alexander's campaign manager in '96
We all know how that went.

7. That was a terrible candidate, but a decent campaign
given what Rove had to work with.

8. The "milk question" did him in.
Poor candidate, yes, but poor preparation by Rove.

4. Yes. He was even "fired" once.
By the Bush family, I believe, for being caught at some of his dirty tricks. Of course, it was all show, so The Family could feign outrage.

10. I believe he tried to get Poppy's friend fired in 92
Musberger ?????? One of the family friends from the 60's in Texas and a business associate of Poppy was "supposed" to be running the 92 campaign (possibly the best thing that happened to Clinton)

He also consulted for Ashcroft in Missouri when he was losing to the dead Governor.

6. W's first Congressional run in the late 70's
?????

BTW- if you aren't aware Rove and W hooked up after Rove basically took over the Young Republicans at their national meeting and Poppa liked what he saw so he sent Rove to babysit W and make sure he didn't wrap his Triumph around a telephone poll. They have been together since.

13. The old days
I knew Krazy Karl back in the old days before I saw the light and when he was very moderate! I'm not kidding. He was a newbie operative when Clements ran for governor in 1978 and beat John Hill by a nose, but it wasn't his race. In the early days, even as a moderate ripub pusher, he was beaten regularly (supporting Repub/conservative candidates in Austin will do that to you). Anyhow, in the mid-80's he took a tough guy pill nad has been the poster child for what's wrong with politics, and especially Texas politics, ever since.
