might withhold vote for Bush if he wins the state.

West Virginia GOP elector says he might not vote for Bush if he wins

CHARLESTON, W.Va. | If President Bush wins West Virginia, one of the state's five Republican electors says he might not vote for Bush to protest his economic and foreign policies.

South Charleston Mayor Richie Robb said based on his research, an elector has ''qualified discretion'' when it comes to casting a vote.

Still, Robb, a moderate Republican with a reputation as a maverick, calls it ''highly unlikely'' that he would cast a vote for Democrat John Kerry. He said he might cast his vote for Vice President Dick Cheney or another Republican instead as a protest against Bush, meaning the president would lose out on one electoral vote. (AP)

1. I've heard of this happening before
Every so often you hear about an elector who bucks the system and votes for who he wants to.

While its highly doubtful he would try to do so if his was the determining vote, this opens the door to all sorts of corruption. And we know which party more likely to participate in that.

3. Still won't hand us the election...
He won't vote for Kerry, and Kerry can't just come out ahead 269-268, he has to have an even 270.
