It's the weather, stupid (?)
How far ahead do weather reports run-ahead? I'd like to know where the rain will be on Election Day.

If it rains in the Florida panhandle on Election Day, I'd be confident in predicting a Kerry win there.

If it rains in Western Iowa (west of Des Moines), I'd be confident in predicting Kerry wins there.

Where else do you want it to rain on Election Day?

3. Forcasts aren't reliably accurate beyond 24 hours though
And anything beyond two or three days is only a guess.

4. Here are the 10-day forecasts, for what they're worth
10-day forecasts just became available. I looked up the election day forecast for the following cities in battleground states:

Albuquerque NM: 61, Mostly Sunny
Charleston WV: 58, Showers
Charlotte NC: 66, Partly Cloudy
Cleveland OH: 52, Few Showers
Denver CO: 56, Partly Cloudy
Des Moines IA: 52, Party Cloudy
Detroit MI: 54, Cloudy
Las Vegas NV: 72, Mostly Sunny
Little Rock AR: 65, Rain
Manchester NH: 57, Partly Cloudy
Miami FL: 83, Partly Cloudy
Milwaukee WI: 53, Party Cloudy
Minneapolis MN: 46, Partly Cloudy
Philadelphia PA: 59, Mostly Cloudy
Phoenix AZ: 79, Sunny
Portland ME: 54, Scattered Showers
Portland OR: 57, Showers (but they vote by mail in Oregon)
Richmond VA: 65, Partly Cloudy
St. Louis MO: 58, Showers

All in all, not a bad forecast. Mild temperatures (between 46 and 83) and no rain in 12 of 18 cities, with only showers in 5 others.

5. 10 day forecasts
They are tripe and only regurgitate the climatological averages. Call the local television stations and they will have the best (albeit still inacccurate) forecast.
