ARRRGGGGHHH Curt Schilling: Tell everyone to vote and vote Bush
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 07:08 AM by Bombtrack
You had to make me pissed this morning Curt. Oh well. He has a right to opine politically. Just dissapointing when somebody you were so in awe of says something so stupid in my opinion.

on edit: He just said it at the very end of an interview with Charles Gibson on good morning America.

He's actually from Alaska. Graduated from H.S. in Arizona. Father was career Army, it seems.

8. I agree.
Why didn't he just keep his mouth shut and talk about the great 8 game win streak that gave the Sox the World Championship.

Geesh! He talks openly about his religion, too. That's okay; but keep politics out of it.

13. Let's See.......
We have no problem with celebrities who speak out on our side, but those who support bush should shut up. Sounds like the freepers, inverted. Curt gets a pass from me. He helped smash the curse. He has as much right to speak up as Brad Pitt.

17. It's Disappointing to Discover Your Hero is Stupid
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 07:42 AM by Jack_Dawson
Let's face it, when a Bush supporter "outs" himself, he's also sending these messages:

1) I only care about my tax break
2) I don't follow the news
3) I didn't watch the debates (athletes can TiVo)

So while I applaud Schilling's heroics during the series, I would have enjoyed a few days of afterglow, instead of learning that he's maybe not the brightest bulb on the tree. Then again, most athletes aren't.

Along with his 25 million dollar salary he just earned him self a 15 million dollar bonus for winning the World Series. The Shilling household really needs that tax break to make ends meet.

58. I would say athletes can talk politics
as much as the rest of us, even when they are talking out their respective asses. It's the same thing the right says about actors and musicians who support us. These guys are wealthy and live in a bubble, the ideal republican, so it is not surprising that he would have no clue. I would say that the number of undecided voters that were waiting for Curt Schilling's endorsement to make up their minds was zero. No harm done.

"Personally, I don't respect what he did- he risked and maybe even crippled himself over what? A game?"

I am sorry but that is an idiotic statement. He was brought here to do a job and he did EVERYTHING in his power to deliver. Going above and beyond what was expected of him. I to am disappointed in his remarks supporting Bush but to demean his accomplishments is wrong. he may have shortened his career by pitching hurt, but as stated in other post he will not have to worry about how he is going to feed his family. Why you can't respect that is beyond me.

Saw an interview with him during the ALCS when he attributed his win over the Yanks to Jesus and having become a Christian several years ago.

Um, sure Curt. There are millions of people all over the world who are suffering through genocide, famine, AIDS and unjust wars, but I'm sure Jesus is much more interested in how you pitch a baseball.

Nothing quite like a self-important fundie to trivialize Christ.

I am a hard core Yankee fan and just this morning I was telling my sister that I thought Schilling was very classy in his interview last night after the win. She reminded me that he was the player who said nothing would make him happier than to make "55,000 Yankee fans shut-up." And now I read that he openly supports Bush? I've changed my opinion of him. I now think he is a first class asshole.

44. "Crybaby Curt"
That's what he was called in Philly, and he lived up to it when he was in AZ. He threw a hissy fit about wanting Bank One Ballpark's roof closed, because the draft from outside interfered with his pitching. Hel-LO, most baseball games are played in stadiums with no roof, ya pansy!

And the Diamondbacks lost a 2nd chance at the series because "Boob" Brenley kept playing Crybaby Curt instead of Randy Johnson (the GOOD pitcher) that season...seems Curt wanted to rack up enough wins to win an award, but all that happened was that we lost enough games to lose our chances at the World Series, too.

The only thing resembling guts I've ever seen from this guy was when he played in this series, with an injured foot. Beyond that, he's a candyass, and it's no wonder he's a rightard.
