MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark says it is up to Congress to determine whether President Bush's march to war in Iraq amounted to a criminal offense.

Asked if misleading the nation in going to war would be criminal, Clark told reporters, "I think that's a question Congress needs to ask. I think this Congress needs to investigate precisely" how the United States wound up in a war "that wasn't connected to the threat of al-Qaida."

The retired four-star general defended his recent comments against the war after both his Democratic rivals and top Republicans complained that the statements were inconsistent with past remarks by Clark, including testimony to Congress in October 2002.

Clark has called for a full congressional probe into why the United States went to war in Iraq, but his comments Thursday marked the first time he had hinted at possible criminal wrongdoing.

"It looks like they've finally figured out that I'm George Bush's greatest threat," he said, blaming it on White House poltiical adviser Karl Rove.

And a endorsement from Michael Moore yesterday too with his statement..."he'll cream Bush," one outspoken man against Bush and his adminstration, all in the same day, must have Karl Rove's hair up on end, that is what's left of it! :-)

OK, more seriously (couldn't resist ruffling feathers with the "popular junta" idea) I believe Wes Clark has the best papers to not only get into the WH, but also ensuring that Congress gets more Democratic representatives. Why? Because he's less confrontational.

Remember Clinton, and the initial "honest" (but tactically clumsy) attempt to overhaul Medicare... The ensuing process of deliberately fanned alienation swept Congress ultimately into the "opponent" column.

10. People, he doesn't expect miracles from a bunch of republicans.

He expects the backing of citizens like us to demand that Bush* and Co. be investigated for what he's done and the lies that he's told. Hells bells, we can't expect Clark, Dean, Kerry, Edwards, or any of them to do all the work for us. As citizens of this country, it is also up to US to demand that the actions leading up to Iraq be investigated. Continued acquiesence to the policies of this administration from the public will not get us the truth of what occurred. But action from the people (which is amazingly absent during the time we need it most) is our only hope.

General Wesley Clark, the front-runner in the Democratic race for the White House, launched a high-risk attack on American foreign policy yesterday when he said the Bush administration should face an investigation into possible "criminal" conduct in its drive to war.

Gen Clark, who as Nato supreme commander led the war in Kosovo, accused the Bush administration of entering office already determined to attack Iraq, then seizing on the September 11 attacks as justification.

He called for an independent review of what he called the "possible manipulation of intelligence" to convince the American people that war with Iraq was necessary.

"Nothing could be a more serious violation of public trust than consciously to make a case for war based on false claims," he was due to say in a speech last night. "We need to know if we were intentionally deceived.
