Warning: A link below is to a foreign news sorce, from the decadent seat of the former British Empire, and is apparently off-limits to US journalists under the Part-time Patriot Act.
The first link below is to an AP story in the Boston Globe, dated today, referencing Clark's remarks yesterday in NH, specifically saying that this was the first time Clark 'hints' at crime. The second link is to a story in the Telegragh (UK) dated October 4th, 2003, which refers to his call back then for a criminal investigation.
Clark has called for a full congressional probe into why the United
States went to war in Iraq, but his comments Thursday marked the
first time he had hinted at possible criminal wrongdoing.
Asked by a reporter if he thought Bush might have committed an
impeachable offense, Clark said, "Let's have that investigation done."Boston Globe/APGeneral Wesley Clark, the front-runner in the
Democratic race for the White House, launched a
high-risk attack on American foreign policy yesterday
when he said the Bush administration should face
an investigation into possible "criminal" conduct in
its drive to war.
Gen Clark, who as Nato supreme commander led the
war in Kosovo, accused the Bush administration of
entering office already determined to attack Iraq,
then seizing on the September 11 attacks as
justification.Telegraph (UK)I point this out, not to brag on Clark, or to disparage the oldest profession by so characterizing US reporters, editors and producers. Well, ok, maybe I do. But my main point is about being informed, about getting the story right.
There are probably some things about the candidates that only their avid supporters and avid attackers know or pay attention to. Among these obscure(d) facts might be the candidates' positions on (a) criminal investigation and (b) impeachment.
I know that former candidate Senator Graham months ago mentioned the "I" word in fairly diplomatic terms about 'could constitute grounds for', and other candidates may have made statements that I neglected to notice, or were neglected for me by our free press.
So, preferring to hear it from supporters v. attackers, what has your candidate said about (a) criminal investigation of Bush administration, and (b) impeachment?
I don't at all mean this in a "my guy's position is prettier than yours", but I do think its important to know their thoughts. Any who haven't spoken should do so, and perhaps raise the amount of coverage given to a not trivial matter.
