Kucinich: Bush Administration Could Precipitate Uprising in Iraq

"The Bush Administration is exposing our troops and innocent civilians to unacceptable and unnecessary danger," said Kucinich. "For months the Administration has been aware of the possibility of massive protests over governance issues, which could lead to an uprising. Yet they insist on trying to manipulate the structure of a new government in Iraq.

"A hundred and thirty thousand US troops are being asked to defend a emerging government structure which the US already knows is unacceptable to the leader of 15 million Shiite Muslims.

"For the past two months, the Administration has been warned that its continued insistence on shaping a new government runs the risk of precipitating a violent uprising against the US presence in Iraq, pitting millions of Iraqis against 130,000 US troops. The Administration has no right to expose US troops to this level of danger.

"The solution is to turn control of the process over to the United Nations. The lives of our troops and of innocent Iraqi civilians are on the line. Our nation's financial resources are on the line. When US officials go to the United Nations on Monday, they must ask for a new resolution that would replace US troops with UN peace keepers. "

1. Nobody will pay any attention to this thread until there's an uprising

and then, in all of a retroactive sudden second, every single candidate up there will be saying they warned of this also (never mind the pro-occupation stances) and blah, blah, blah. A few might even produce some "pre-dated" position papers to make their new rhetoric more convincing ;)

3. I heard something tonight

on NPR; I was driving home; my memory is not exactly razor sharp here. It was something about the leader of a muslim group in Iraq threatening protests if the US doesn't do something to get open, direct democratic elections for an Iraqi government; there was mention of the UN having a part.

That's all I remember; I was paying attention to traffic! I do remember thinking about the way some people have suggested that Dennis couldn't get the UN in on the deal; apparently, though, there are some Iraqis who agree with him.

It's amazing how often these days I hear Dennis' ideas, words, plans, issuing from other candidates as if they just had a brainstorm!

4. If you believe in majority rule, the Shias have it!

If you believe in democracy and in the separation of church and state, the Shias still get power, but they must respect the rights of minorities and cannot use religious law.

In the end, the US will be forced to put a Saddam clone in power!
