Sick of hearing the youth blamed
As a 25 year old, I may or may not be considered part of that group. The young people who did vote ELECTED JOHN KERRY PRESIDENT!

It's people between the ages of 30-55 who voted for Bush, it's Men, it's the South, and it's religious nutjobs.

I fall in to one of those categories. We men let the women down.

If you want to lay blame on a particular group of people, the youth is not where you should point your finger.

2. Damn straight
I'm 24. I'm sick to death of being blamed too. It's middle aged white guys who are to blame, folks. The kind that get their sick little kicks from watching the bombs go off on CNN. Fuckers.

6. You let the women down? I'll hear none of it, sir.
I am a woman myself, and as little stomach I have for anyone who would vote for the * misadministration, I view women who would do so as traitors to our sex.

And I have known, and know now, far too many young gals who fancy themselves as so deep and enlightened who very eagerly volunteered that they were voting for * in 2000 and/or now. Thanks for holding my rights hostage, bitches. Thanks for helping keep the most anti-woman -- and not just anti-American-woman -- administration right where they can do the most irreversible damage.

How or why people continue to vote against their own self-interests I will never know or understand...

7. No more out of it than the
military vote itself for different reasons(namely those same youth brainwashed as they are victimized).

9. There are people registering students to vote at my college each year
and I registered there a few years ago. Then on Nov 1 I called to make sure about where I was supposed to vote and I was listed only as a resident. Fortunately I could just go back to my hometown and vote there.

11. No, blaming "youth" is absolutely not fair, it's spin.
Gotta point that finger and direct everyone's attention somewhere while they try to steal votes.

It is a tragic combination of factors that is contributing to the support for Bush, including but not limited to poor education which has been degrading since the mid-1960's; massive overconsumption of privately owned mass media by Americans, resulting in people being easily led by anything they see on a television screen; and a growing obsession with fundamentalist evangelical religion, which forty years ago was limited to what was once considered a small and ignorant lunatic fringe. Add to this exploitation of people's natural fears after 9/11, shortsightedness regarding the amounts of money people will get through tax cuts and the actual impact those amounts of money will have in people's lives, and a lack of critical thought and real interest in politics on the part of most Americans, and you've got a mess.

It wasn't just "the youth vote". It's incredibly complex, has been decades in the making, and damned if I can see a way to turn it around. It's a horrible Juggernaut, and I only hope it can be stopped somehow - and soon.
