Regardless of how the election turns out, we are all left with a feeling that we have been violated.
We have been.
So have possibly hundreds of thousands of others. The very fact that ANY US citizen could have their vote not count, be the victim of deliberate misinformation or intimidation to prevent them from exercising their most basic and essential civil right would have been unthinkable a mere 10 years ago. Yet, we've seen it put into practice in an organized and decidedly hideous way.
Let's call it what it is: the politics of hate, of exclusion, of intimidation, of RACISM. We can no longer shy away from that word. I live in Arizona, and have seen a proposition pass that is specifically designed to keep certain people from exercising their most basic civil rights. There is no other word for it besides racism, and it won't stop there.
I don't have any ideas of how to organize this, but right now we need to muster our courage and realize what is at stake at this very moment.
Vigilance, my friends. They've come for my brother, next it will be me.
Let's get this thing started, somehow.
Any ideas?
