Grover Norquist predicted that when W wins the election
the the Democratic Party will be dead forever. ( Last month's Washington Monthly article)

Their strategy to bring us down is to dry up the funding sources to the Dem. party.

He said that the upcoming tort reform legislation will be passed to cut down on the income of our trial lawyers. (less to donate)

The other predictable support of our Dem. party are the unions. We know what is happening to our Union workers...jobs gone....ergo the union workers will be gone. And the unions' treasuries will be empty. So the funds cut off to the Democratic Party.

They methodically planned to destroy us.

Gotta hand it to them... those weasels have done a great job.

So now what?

1. We haven't lost the war
Every fortification in history has been breached. Our candidates have made a valient challenge. We have new battles to win.

Get back to business and conquer those challenges. Do not cut off your nose to spite your face. Be as successful as you can be in your life and your community. Grow strong and bring your strength back here. There will be more battles and we need your strength.

6. I am just exhausted today- Licking my wounds.
But I was alarmed when I read the article.

Their plan was so brilliantly transparent when I saw it in print.

Thanks for the Props. I needed that. :-)

11. I doubt their plan had much to do with it
Remember that they were the incumbents. I don't see that either they or we could have done much in the short run to have changed anything.

All politics are local. So get back into the trenches and fight it out. We do live to fight another day. We are not completely destroyed. Read Sun Tzu to see what that means.:grouphug: :grouphug:

5. We're on the same side cryingshame
Don't chastise anyone for expressing themselves. If we've lost it is healthy to grieve that loss.

If you have strength to give, then give it by all means.

15. We Have't "Lost" And THAT IS THE FREAKING POINT
it makes me SICK to see the Martyrs on this forum.

Either stand up and be willing to at least TRY AND FIGHT RIGHT NOW, or you are in the way.

16. Sorry to make you sick. I am not a martyr. GNorquist's article was a part
of a series of many predictions in the magazine. His article made a huge impression on me (the only one that I can remember from the series actually).
I am not giving up on Kerry.

3. For Christ sake
it's not like we lost by 95% - we took nearly half the country. Fear won out over rationality - this time.
Nixon's boys thought they had it made after their re-election too.

7. No, but consistent marginal loses will be devastating
Don't underestimate the desire of the right to strangle and destroy the Demo. Party.

8. Nixon's boys faced a Democratic congress, though
Everything going on with the Plame outing, the Pentagon spy scandal, connections to the House of Saud, the CIA report, etc, etc, is never going to be legitimately investigated by Congress now.

4. Another way the pugs are getting unions is by demanding they
account for almost every expenditure.

Destroying trial lawyers is not only to get at what the pugs believe is a loyal bunch of dems but also to do away with the only avenue the average citizen has at holding corporate excesses accountable.

9. One could argue that Norquist's extremist theories, when put in practice
will cause a MASSIVE backlash.

10. Yep
They've been systematically destroying us and dismantling the New Deal for over 30 years now, inch by inch, deception by deception. And the American public is too stupid to realize how this will, in the long run, effect them.

14. It's not repugs destroying us, it's dems
we need candidates that appeal to our base.

Yesterday my canvassing partner was a Torey from Wales (RW British party). He said that Kerry was more conservative than most EU politicians, and that there was no one in Europe as far right as a repug.Unless our party is REFORMED, it will die.

18. The heck with that.
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 10:30 AM by w4rma
If our base didn't turn out for this election it's never turning out. And imho, our base did turn out, but the Repug base turned out, also.

God, Guns and Gays. That was what decided this election.

19. Yes. As I was traveling to my poll worker spot yesterday,
Like everyone else in the country, I saw huge lines at the polls everywhere.

I knew that there was trouble for us because I live in a very Repug. area (in the shadow of Pat Robertson's empire). That huge turnout was not going to be from the Democratic base turning out.

Repug. acquaintances that had long ago called a truce with me as far as political thought, sent me a bunch of crap anyhow. They thought that this election was as important as we did.

There was a 75 year old woman that voted for the first time at my poll and she was a Bush voter.

Their under-the-radar church voter drive was very effective.
