A personal story for Dean supporters
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 12:18 PM by OhMyGod
This is my first post in this forum. Had to share this tidbit.

My coworker's parents are lifelong republicans, very educated, voted for GW. They are now in LOVE with Howard Dean, even donated to his campaign. My coworker says they like his personality and feel betrayed by Bush.

1. Many stories like this
That is my Dad's story also.

Just reinforces my belief that Dean is the most electable Dem, hands down.

4. OhMyGod! ***
Thank you for the nice post***Thats always great news.

And it doesnt surprise me. Dean is all about common sense in governing and overall fairness, much of what the original Republican party was all about (self-responsibility), that he appeals to moderates on either side of the fence.

5. Yup
Everyone has at least one -- or more than one -- story to share about a lifelong Republican coming around to liking one of our Dems.

Bush is toast.

6. Mt brother, lifelong liberal republican
is now on Dean's team and is running a fundraiser.

Told me most of the big donors are the wives of republican male doctors and businessmen.

8. Awesome!
Wonderful news! :-)

I also have a similar story with my friends grandparents. They were life-long Republicans but cannot stand Bush. Last I heard, they were endorsing Dean as well!!!

9. Even my old Dad is having an honest listen
And he's a lifelong Republican- of the old school variety. He's gotten to this point because:

a) He's major military and knows damn well that Bush & Co. lied repeatedly to settle their score with Sadaam- at the expense of our national defense; and

b) He's a fiscal conservative who's extremely pissed off at the irresponsible Republican economic policies and the massive deficits that his grandkids will have to pay off.

The bottom line is that these aren't my father's Republicans anymore, and more and more people are beginning to see it, despite the corporate media's subterfuge.

10. I know many Republicans in IL who are supporting Dean.
Mostly, they are what I would call 'true conservatives', and they are outraged at Bush's lack of fiscal discipline and blatant trampling of civil rights. This does not bode well for Bush in November, IMO.

11. I've talked to many who like Dean and when you share that "we need
balance" with the house and senate being repug...they look at the bills and the war and can see the need.

12. Yes, balance is good
and most know it.

My favorites are the Republicans I sign up for the Democratic Party at Dean Meet-ups. :toast:

Grow the Party, grow the Party, grow the Party!!!

13. Got three republicans in my precinct
Five first time caucus goers.

I'm still cautiously optimistic about Dean.

14. heard one caller on C-Span this morning
say she was a Republican, but is considering changing parties to Democratic

didn't catch if she shaid she had voted for bush* or not

ennywhoooo - she's ticked off about jobs, been on unemployment, losing benefits and no job in sight, very upset about the worker visa program while US jobs are being shipped out and no new jobs being created here for "real" americans

sounds like the bush* pandering is alienating more of his base support than bringing in new supporters

16. While every switched Republican is good
I kept hearing this "getting the GOP to vote for Dean" at the last (my first) meetingup.

As a long-time Dem, that's an even shakier place to stand than brigning in new or returning voters.

But god bless 'em, we'll take 'em every one.

I still believe that Dean's greatest strength is his over antagonism toward Bush, and that every Rovian attack will make Dean stronger in the anti-Bush half of the electorate, growing turnout.
