Huge demand for Clark Bars causes shortage
Should retired Gen. Wesley Clark's battle for the Democratic presidential nomination be successful, his choice for running mate may be narrowed down to Mr. Goodbar, Willy Wonka or Oh Henry! - a fitting touch for a campaign that may have been won by a candy bar.

Clark, one of the top contenders for the nomination, is using the Clark bar as one of his weapons of choice, and his supply has come from an Altoona business.

"The Clark bar is almost impossible to get now," Blair Candy Co. co-owner Pam Macharola said. "The Clark campaign takes almost all of them that we can get. It's to the point where the manufacturer can't keep up.

10. Peanuts?
I for one have never eaten a Clark bar, as I believe they contain peanuts, which to me is an anathema.

But, that being the case (peanuts and all), we can add one more economy boost to your list...

PEANUT FARMERS!

Coconut! They are covered in coconut, if I recall. I haven't eaten one in years. Yup, peanut farmers and coconut growers. Sugar manufacturers, vegetable oil or canola oil makers, artificial food coloring manufacturers...the list of economic benefits are endless! :7

26. Ahhhh.
See? I honestly can't remember the last time I had a Clark Bar. Does it "look" like coconut? Could I have thought I was eating coconut all those years and not known it was peanut butter crunch? I wonder if I'm thinking of another candy bar? See what getting old does? Oy Vey! ;)

Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 02:35 PM by TacticalPeak
Is this a hidden endorsement? :silly:

"Clark scored an important marketing success when it introduced the five-cent-sized Clark bar. Initially, the bar was individually wrapped to facilitate shipment of candy to American troops during World War I. The Clark bar became extremely popular with the soldiers and its popularity carried over to the general public in the years following the war."

Shameless plug..but they have been very friendly and kind when I have ordered other candy from O'Ryans. They carry a lot of the harder to find old favorites like Slo-Poke suckers and the like. And the nice lady I spoke with there said they have been selling a lot of Clark bars.
